Can this work for tanks that need lower temperatures as well?

Absolutely. Growing plants underwater do best between 22 - 24 degrees Celsius.

Hey there, thanks for the review. Curious on whether you recall the timeframe this aquasoil was leeching ammonia into the water? I’ve had it in my tank for around 5 weeks and whilst all my other parameters have settled there is a continual unexplained ammonia spike of .25ppm that just keeps reoccurring after water changes. I can’t make any sense of it other than the aquasoil is still leeching it. I look forward to your feedback.
@AussieAquatic10 күн бұрын
A typical new aquarium has a 6 - 8 week period where the beneficial bacteria are building up a strong culture to feed on animal wastes (that includes ammonia) So you're almost there. It's important to note that in freshwater aquariums, the minor readings of ammonia, include both NH3 and NH4. (one is toxic, one is not) At PH levels of 7 and lower it isn't really a toxic poison to fish, at PH levels of 7.8 and above it is toxic to fish. African cichlid and saltwater fishkeepers have to be very careful. Planted tanks, not a big issue. Once the bacteria culture is up and running you should stop seeing any readings on your test kit. Summary, all good :)

Q from a beginner…. Why do you only run the bubbler at night at lower temps?
@AussieAquatic13 күн бұрын
In an aquarium where growing plants is just as important as healthy fish, maximizing dissolved CO2 in the water when plants are photosynthesizing while lights are on, is easiest by not using an airstone bubbler at that time. When lights are off, the plants do not photosynthesize, so we maximize O2 for the fish by turning the bubbler on. Max CO2 in daytime for the plants. Max O2 at nighttime for the fish.

The question I was waiting for!!! Some very different forms of algae often grow along the top rims of our aquariums. In this case the algae came off as a continuous string when I was doing a tank maintenance clean-up. Since the Redtail shark, Siamese algae eaters, bristlenose catfish and the goldfish LOVE eating algae, I let it drop into the fish tank as food.

Hey mate have your tried the osmocote liquid fertilizer? Im not so sure if its fish safe or nah
@AussieAquatic25 күн бұрын
@@raj1634 the problem with using all liquid fertilisers made for gardens in an aquarium, is the levels of nitrates and phosphates, that for gardens are great, but for aquariums are way too high, because our fish already produce those in abundance.

If the plants are put in small clay pots, just have some BBQ Lava rock at the bottom and medium grade 3 -6 mm gravel on top, add one Osmocote Water gardens tab per small pot, two for a larger pot. Give plants time to settle in and they will establish easily.
