Thames going killed a lot of careers. They consigned most of the actors and acts who had been huge in the 70s and 80s to the dustbin. Some managed to keep getting work but it felt like a line in the sand. Am not sure it was for the better.

Oh, shit, NO!!! What the fuck? I don't want you to let Thames Television transform into Carlton Television!!! I don't think so. You need to remove Carlton Television & let Thames Television continue, FOREVER! All London people & I don't like Carlton Television because it's so, super, DUPER stupid & made of shit. Also, all London people & I liked Thames Television because it's the best ITV franchise in London, England. It's a weekday franchise. So... STOP IT! RIGHT FUCKING STUPID NOW!!!

Thames mugged Carlton TV right off with this as they got the advertising fee. Also 31 years later, Thames still exist albeit with a new parent company and merged with other operations. Carlton TV are long forgotten about now.

Thank you for those memories, what a waste, am I right in thinking a supermarket stands where you filmed?, I think it's before the national lottery was introduced that might have made a difference although big money wins at the end of day and all that hard work meant nothing, I went to Rowley about five years ago and didn't get any questions answered infact I found them very unfriendly and at the Matlock end which is unusual for a heritage railway, could anyone give me any information on Peak rails plans towards Buxton please, thank you again for that rare footage.

Yes, I had someone shout at me on my first visit to Rowsley years ago. It was not a working day, I kept to the public areas and there was no danger. I've not been back.

If I understand correctly, there were two main stations in Lincoln just because of competing railways. Arguably, there should have only ever been 1 station built at Lincoln. Same with Wolverhampton and countless other towns and cities that had duplicated stations just because of different rail companies not sharing stations.

Carlton owner Michael Green planned it all the way from when Carlton won their franchise. He along with the shareholders of Granada had concocted a plan to make them all millions by buying all the franchises and then merging it into a single ITV entity. Hence why when Carlton bought WestCountry and Central, they immediately took away their regional identity and simply renamed them Carlton. Granada kept the regional names but all under one very similar ident with the exception of LWT. Once they both wiped out all the other companies, they formed their plan. Firstly by setting up the doomed ITV Digital which cost Carlton and Granada millions and secondly when they both trialled a single ITV ident for a year before finally both merging. Green then was told to leave by Charles Allen as he was never forgiven for ITV Digital’s collapse which was all his brainwave. They also saw him as obnoxious, abrupt and a liability. Not that Green cared. He had made the fortune he wanted to through the merger.
