The thing is her voice sounded like a Cornet blowing sweet and mellow.The movie Forever Young should win a Jazz award for turning so many on to Billy Holiday.❤

My late aunt always said that Nat was her favorite singer because whenever he sang a song, it was as though he was singing it just for you.

Ronnie Aldrich, if my memory serves me correctly, used to record on London records. In the 1960s, 70s, and early 80s I was an announcer at a prestigious radio station in Houston TX that played exclusively this type of music. Those were days of wonder! I got out of the radio business in the mid 1990s when the good music finally completely disappeared from the airwaves. I mourn its disappearance. Thank you for posting this lovely remembrance!

Superlatives cannot describe Hoagy Carmichael's sublime melody and Mitchell Parish's wonderful lyrics to what became one of the greatest songs of all time, "Stardust" in its beautiful arrangement by Gordon Jenkins and sung by the incomparable Nat King Cole. Some years ago the Los Angeles Times asked its readers what was the greatest song in the USA over the previous fifty years. The answer was "Stardust".

And now the purple dusk of twilight time Steals across the meadows of my heart High up in the sky the little stars climb Always reminding me that we're apart You wander down the lane and far away Leaving me a song that will not die Love is now the stardust of yesterday The music of the years gone by Sometimes I wonder how I spend The lonely night Dreaming of a song The melody haunts my reverie And I am once again with you When our love was new And each kiss an inspiration But that was long ago And now my consolation Is in the stardust of a song Besides the garden wall When stars are bright You are in my arms The nightingale tells his fairytale A paradise where roses grew Though I dream in vain In my heart, it will remain My stardust melody The memory of love's refrain
@apexerman1Ай бұрын
The melody is of course timeless, but I'm reminded of the brilliance of the lyrics to tell the story. It stems from a different time when words like "revery" and "refrain" aren't used very often, but entirely match the mood of the song and speaks to a love long since passed into memory. It pulls the heartstrings.

For me, I always come back to NKC songs in fall. In October when autumn leaves begin to fall. His voice is so apt for the cooler days after summer. And such a distinct voice he had. His voice will live on and no doubt stir emotions and pangs of nostalgia in people.

I remember once I had a new HiFi system with a new turntable. I put this record on and Stardust played at maximum volume. The neighbors called the cops on me because it was too loud. The cops gave the neighbors the ticket instead.
