finally getting the time to watch this in one go today.. goddamn that runtime LOL, mad. on a serious note, genuinely proud of you guys for finishing the project before years' close. The commitment to do something of this scale and quality over years is.... Insane. Congrats!!! it was a fun ride Anyway, really look forward to the vid and whatever comes next, if you all hate yourselves enough to do Umineko one day the mania would be unreal

1:49:03 I know it was said there's no plans to ever touch the supplemental content - understandable, frankly, good god, there's so much, but when I say Miotsukushi would drive you insane I'm not even joking. HEDGEHOG if you were to ever touch anything outside the original arcs even for just personal enjoyment, MAKE IT MIOTSUKUSHI HEN!!!!!!!!!! (it's pretty flawed, all the console arcs are, but Mion fans eat WELL)

Hedgehog, _at least_ consider reading (not even to make a video) Saikoroshi-hen. It's written directly by Ryukishi07, and is essentially an epilogue to the story. I personally consider it as essential as the main 8, not at all a side story, at least in terms of the themes. It's about the question of how Rika will live after everything she's been through. It also follows up on that ending you get if you perfect the fragments puzzle. It's not a "joke" ending.

Now that Higurashi is over I think it's a good time for a little piece of trivia on the series development Originally, Irie was going to be the mastermind and true villain He was even supposed to be much more cruel, however, a friend of Ryukishi's who also helped in Higurashi's development thought a few things were just too horrible and also, while writing Tatarigoroshi, it just felt like Satoko didn't have many allies so Irie was rewriten to be this much kinder person who really does care for the Houjo siblings Meaning that all those times that Irie is seemingly suspicious or characters try to pin the crimes on him are Ryukishi simply referencing the character's origins and having a small laugh with it

*MINOR SPOILER FOR THE VIDEO BTW* I am kind of confused here, SO, did Hanyuu's forgiveness go through? Or was it like brushed of cuz wrong person ig. OR was it that her "forgiveness" was like somehow leading Tomotake to give Takano another chance/forgiveness, she is a deity after all, maybe she could have the power to somehow sway hearts? Or is this like not connected and Hanyuu's forgiveness was just worth doodoo water and Tomotake's was the only one that mattered since he would be someone who more understood Takano's pain. AND THAT KEEPS MAKING ME THINK IN CIRCLES. Like is the forgiveness just Hanyuu saying hmm maybe don't kill yourself and completely unconnected to Tomotake's forgiveness. Or is it like oh hmm I'm devious Hanyuu and I know everything maybe dont kill yourself cuz that boy you like reeeeeeeeeeeeely likes you and you will feel better with him

The final chapter having gameplay feels like an intentional symbolic fourth wall break choice too. For seven chapters, we were passively reading/observing these worlds of Higurashi. Just like Rika, we merely watched the stories of tragedy occur over and over again and could do nothing about it. But now.. that has been proven wrong. Rika's resolve has been awakened and so must ours. Ryukishi literally took the phrase that's been mentioned quite alot in the story and ran with it "we can't do this alone, we need the strength of everyone." So now Rika and Ryukishi - the author is breaking the fourth wall turning to us the reader and asking US for our help to break the cycle of June 1983. And that is why the gameplay of the fragments is so important. Because its not just Rika and Hanyuu finally taking action, WE are all taking action in building this new perfect world. Ryukishi went far and beyond to portray despair and hope at its truest form. He isolated us and kept us in the dark for many of the mysteries and secrets putting us into the shoes of the characters at their lowest.. then eventually he literally welcomed us in, we became a true part of this world and the spark of hope that we can make a difference was granted to us.. thus we were finally shown the fruits of that labor. The suffering was worth it. As long as we remain together and continue to grow as empathetic people we can change the world. I love that about Ryukishi's work.

Above all the work you and everyone who worked with you created videos that made the audience feel like they really understood and felt the story. The whole of Higurashi is a crazy and complex story. So thank you! I look forward to your next videos💛💛

I said it before in a previous video, but Higurashi is the single greatest essay on the Power Of Friendship I've ever seen. While I might _slightly_ disagree with some of the specific phrasing in Minagoroshi and Matsuribayashi regarding the matter, it's little more than minor nitpicks. This series is a masterpiece, flaws and all. (There's no such thing as a "flawless masterpiece", that does not exist, such a thing is entirely impossible, don't @ me.) I came into Higurashi expecting a cute dating sim with maybe a few spooks here and there, got DDLC pranked with how Onikakushi goes, and by the end I was crying. This has been a fantastic series of videos, Hedgehog! I look forward to your future endeavors.

I will probably come back to rewatch all of this throughout the years. also if you're really going to create something like this for umineko, i would really like to try and contribute, maybe do some voice acting if you need some VAs... although i don't have any projects to showcase what i'm capable of rn....

Saikoroshi is often mixed up with all the extra arcs and tossed aside by readers, but it's a fantastic epilogue to the series, its themes, and Rika's character development. It should really be considered Arc 9. You are really missing out if you skip it. And it's actually pretty short, not a massive behemoth like the others.

Hi Hedgehog, this video was AHHHH 10/0, it was so good, it broke MATHEMATICS! Honestly, I respect your decision to leave the series here. As much as I love the side stories and the sequels, I feel as though they aren't really necessary. Don't get me wrong, a lot of them are GREAT character stories and fun what-if scenarios, but you can tell that the main narrative was designed to end way before those stories. The only exception to me would be Saikoroshi, the direct epilogue for Matsuribayashi. And I say that because it's a little bit uncomfortable to imagine that Rika is mentally 100 years old or so but now has to just move on as a little girl again with the knowledge and trauma she has. And Saikoroshi is GREAT for ironing that wrinkle out of what Matsuribayashi left in. But it's not SUPER super important since you could easily head-canon your way through it without that arc. But yeah, it's been a journey. I'd only found your channel earlier this year but that didn't stop me from getting a bit choked up during the conclusion of this video. I'm frankly in love with the work and passion you put into these videos. And the group of nerds that've been here alongside are so talented and a joy to my bitter hardened soul. I feel a little bad since I've mostly enjoyed these videos as audio-only til now, so honestly I'm just gonna spend an afternoon rewatching each of these videos, they are endlessly rewatchable. Thanks a lot, til next time you're in my notifications! :)

Hiii~! Thanks for putting this out, it was a great pleasure to finally be introduced to the series proper after falling off after two episodes of the anime. I found the series at ch 4 or so and have been glued to the release of each episode! You all did a really great job and I was so antsy waiting for this chapter that I DID buy and play ch 8 and I may go on to play Umineko after this. I was going to ask... So when's Umineko (A Comprehensive Story Analysis) but it seems from that little teaser you'll be moving onto one of my favorite visual novels! So much for escaping the time loop!

16:48 That's.....what happened in real life as well. Shocker I know. The Japanese Empire back in the day is not someone we should trust when it comes to justifications for war. Also: Well......Okay I am not a Westerner. Nor am I someone who really sees the world through a western or Eastern eyes. Our part of the world is the middle East. And I am a Muslim. Amd there is something I have observed from the Japanese a lot, They tend to disrespect their religion a lot (that's saying if they even have a religion) The faiths in Japan should be Shintoism, Folk Shamnism, Bhuddism (Mahayana or Vajrayana) and Christianity due to the US occupation that still continues till this day. Okinawa is basically a US possession. The Japanese also had something called Emperor worship during world war 2. Here the history books equate it to the Pre Islamic Pharoes and how they made the people worship them. And that Emperor lost the war against the Americans. Maybe the lack of faith/respect for their dieties comes from here. American post war policies also contributed to this. Just like Prussian Militarism was thought of as the reason behind Germany's two world wars (Prussia was thus taken away from Germany and now is divided between Russia and Poland), 20th century Japanese Bushido (A curropted version of the older bushido codes) and the Emperor worship was seen as a detriment to the societal rebuilding that America was doing in Japan. War had to be taken out of the Japanese mind. PS2: I started writing this comment, had breakfast and then came back. I don't even know why i wasted all this time rambling but eh. It is what it is. I am currently studying the Pacific war. Maybe that's why this stuff is one my mind. I would recommend a book here. "War without Mercy". It really shows how savage the pacific war was.
