As a producer, I actually dislike this advice, cause this is completely dependent on what type of music you make, and how experimental it is. Because you could make the sound of a piece of wood falling into a percussion with a decent amount of effects, and some genres like future garage are characterised by their warped sound. If you try to make radio-ready pop music this could work, but as a general piece of advice I think it limits creativity
