I needed to see this 3 month beard growth. I always get to 2 months and shave. Not this time. I started January 1st and my goal is to see what I have on June 1st. Thanks for the great inspiration! God Bless!

Why did you build it so small ? I built a small 150' by 300' one about 8 months ago and it didn't take no time and I ran out of room in no time. Do you plan on adding on later on ?

Pretty cool but the the only thing I could think about the whole video is why the house appeared to be built 10 feet from the road when there was a massive empty piece of land behind it?
@jordanandjamie
@jordanandjamie 2 жыл бұрын
Biggest reason was cost of getting electricity run to the house. You basically have to pay per foot and the lines are underground, so it was expensive. The other reason is my parents use the field to grow hay. So, the further they built the house into the field the less space they have for hay.

I really like the use of two roof trusses, spaced apart. Space in between fits wood columns perfectly. In the past, I have installed lighting in that space. Wiring was simplified and light fixtures are hidden from direct view. Also, pre-framing sections of roof; trusses, bracing, roof sheathing skip members on ground where it is safer, easier, and faster. Lift whole section at once.

I have no idea what I am talking about, but isn´t there some lack of ventilation? And did I miss it, or did you not show how the floor was installed?
@jordanandjamie
@jordanandjamie 2 жыл бұрын
The building isn't sealed airtight, so we haven't noticed a need for ventilation. If we do, that can be added pretty easily whenever. I did not show the floor because I didn't have that footage with the rest of the build. I'm actually going to do an update video this week that will include the concrete. So check back soon!

Lots of wasted space and narrow passageways...just waiting till the first pole is run into. Great effort and video though...not trying to tear down your work as I'm sure it works quite well for you. I wonder what the cost difference is for this versus a steel building. And like others below have stated, it is better to use steel anchors then affix the posts to them so they will not rot off over time at the ground. I did this on my smaller barn.

Well, that's close to what I want. I need higher ceilings for Car lift and a mezzanine. Although that one is large, I still felt claustrophobic with those relatively low ceilings.

wood posts will rot in the ground, I suggest using steel anchors/posts
@Darnic-Fab
@Darnic-Fab 2 жыл бұрын
better if columns are set on concrete stem wall or pier. Steel posts will rust just like wood will rot. Plus all the chemicals from farming would make steel rust even faster.

Are the drawings for this structure and the trusses certified and stamped by an engineer?
@jordanandjamie
@jordanandjamie 2 жыл бұрын
No, no drawings. My dad just came up with the design and measurements in his head and went from there. This wasn't a contracted build by "professionals" or anything.

@@jordanandjamie What kind of snow and wind loads do you get?
@jordanandjamie
@jordanandjamie 2 жыл бұрын
@@gary24752 I don't have actual measurements, but the snow in the field can easily be 2-3' deep, or deeper where it drifts. It's not regularly windy, but when it is the gusts can get up to 40mph. This isn't the first pole barn my dad has designed and built. It's pretty sturdy!
@gary24752
@gary24752 2 жыл бұрын
@@jordanandjamie I think your father did a great job building it but you have enough money invested in the building that maybe having a professional engineer do a structural check on it would be worth it.

THEY SHOULD BE NOTCHING THE TOP OF THE POST, NOT JUST NAILING/BOLTING IT TO THE POST. THE WAY THEY ARE DOING IT IS THE FAST, CHEAP WAY OF DOING IT & ISN'T AS NEARLY AS SECURE. FACT.

At the very least I would have to question whether or not they should have bearing blocking on each side of the column for each truss designed for the loading.

Whether it's notched or not a hurricane will destroy it either way so it really doesn't make a difference.

If you look closely, you'll see that we put 2x8s on both sides of each post to act as bearing blocks.
