Listening on my Pixel 6 Pro phone and on my Shokz headphones I could not tell a difference and I intentionally did not look at the video.

8 years ago! What have you done since then? I just got a "Spherical" viola with 8 sympathetic strings left of the bridge, 8 to the right of the bridge and 7 under the fingerboard through the bridge. Sounds like I'm in a music hall.

En fermant les yeux !!! la différence est audible (avec un très bon casque et un excellent convertisseur). Le NT5 est une très bonne affaire et le MK 22 est vraiment excellent.

Scharps is more natural, and more pleasing.. It’s vers subtle, though. I’m considering the Røde NT-5 for acoustic guitar. Thank you for the video!

On Huawei 40Pro mobile 😊 i hear no difference, so when ie entire band is being recorded, the difference would be impossible to hear on headphones either, i couldnt afford the most expensive mics, so my choice would be simple. 🙂. I hope NT1 is suitable for cellos, i am thinking of NT1 but 5th gen. Awesome performance though its only for testing.

The Schoeps is more clear and resolved sounding and natural. The Rode has similar midrange, but not as much top end resolution. One could get away with the NT5 in a dense mix with non featured tracks and probably not tell much of a difference.

Great video. I honestly can't hear a huge difference. Maybe my ears aren't as good as they used to be after so many years of music. Enjoyed this comparison. Nice fiddle playing also

Great shootout! I really like the focused carracter of the wa84, very fast transient response compared to the nu-100k. Does the nu-100k have a slightly wider polar pattern? Really shows in the hardingfele shootout. The nu-100k might be better in closer placements than wa84.
@olmification
@olmification Жыл бұрын
Thanks, Åsmund! They both sound good in my opinion, and it's not always easy to tell the difference. But like you say, it shows more in the hardingfele shootout where more frequencies and transients are in action. I think that the NU-100k is a little bit more detailed, but for some reason I usually end up with the WA-84s when I record violin. It could also just be that the 84 suits my instruments and/or playing style better. The NU-100K is more versatile, and you can also choose between different polar patterns, which I didn't mention in the video. It was set to cardioid (of course) in the video. I have some ideas for some more tests, and maybe you have some ideas too.?
@aasmundr
@aasmundr Жыл бұрын
I Agree, the 84 was really great on the violin. Might be interesting to change mic depending on forground/background placment in the mix, utilize the transientresponse of the mic for added depth and slight difference between layers. Allways fun with new mics! If youd like, we can do a shootout @ Nyhavna next time your in town, combine our mic lockers and make a shootout? :)

@@olmification How would you rank the WA84 vs the Schoeps and NT5?
@7CTAC

Definitely lower strings sound fuller on CMC. Plus transient (attack) is night and day difference in favor of Schoeps. Listened on iPhone. I am sure monitors would only highlight these differences.

Nyckelharpa- I had never even heard of this instrument. It sounds great. The Hardanger fiddle- 8 string- is very resonant. Great job. It might have 10 strings, instead.

Both instruments are beautiful. Intricate and unique in construction, they bring style to sound, like rhythm does to poetry. What is that instrument? Not the fiddle, the other one? Please.

Awesome. Is the hardanger you're playing here a hybrid of sorts? It almost looks like a 5 string violin with the added sympathetic strings.

It’s a 5 string hardanger fiddle in A, so a hybrid is a good description.

Listening with my studio monitors I couldn't hear much of a difference, but then with the headphone on the first part I could hear the CMC 6 were like 5% louder and a little more balanced. Then at the end (with EQ and Reverb) the NT5 felt more far, but I think the Røde is totally worth for its price
@olmification
@olmification Жыл бұрын
I agree! It's totally worth it, but I would still go with the Schoeps for recording fiddle. It's a bit warmer and doesn't really need a lot of EQ

Nice playing and demo, Olav! The NU-100K sound fuller to me in the low end and the upper mids are also more pleasant than the WA-84. The WA-84 has more treble. Recording fiddle solo, I would go for the NU´s, but in a dense mix, the WA might do the trick! Anyway I feel that the NU needs a little eq lift on the treble, especially on the Hardangerfiddle, to really hear the sympathetic strings. In my studio, the Sennheiser MKH-40 are always a winner on fiddle (and many other instruments). Lately I have also been testing out a pair of Coles 4038 in combination with a brighter condenser. Sound very pleasant an full, but the Coles needs eq lift in the 8-16k region.
@olmification
@olmification Жыл бұрын
Thanks! I need to check out the MKH-40 then. I’ve recorded quite a bit with the Coles, but I don’t own one myself. For some reason I’m drawn towards the Royer SF-12, but I haven’t tried it yet.

Yeah, the Royers are nice! More treble than the Coles. I have a 121 mostly used for electric guitars (and btw you have been recorded with the MKH-40, in Strandebarm Skyttarhus a long time ago!)
