This is just a classic example of how that as soon as politicians get involved in anything, they screw it up. My dad always says "If you can't do anything productive with your life, there's always space for you as a politician"

You are incorrect on your statement on the Wasp. She had six torpedos fired at her, of which three struck one right after the other. Since she was designed with no armor belt or torpedo blisters, the Type 93 Longlance torpedoes, each of which carries a warhead over half a ton, wreaked havoc. They struck her magazines and av-gas fuel tanks. She was doomed from the start. No amount of skilled damage control could have saved her. USS Lexington was hit by two bombs and five torpedoes. One bomb penetrated her five inch munitions storage magazine and touched off the entire store. The five torpedoes that hit her, once again were the devastating Type 93. After such destruction, once again, no amount of damage control, no matter how heroic, could have saved her. As for the amazing ability of American damage control teams, it is exhibited in the USS Yorktown at the Battle of the Coral Sea. After being struck by a bomb that went through multiple decks before exploding in the bowels of the ship. Her crews brought the fires under control and got her back to Pearl. At Midway, where she was damaged by three bombs, but was so swiftly repaired, and resumed operations so quickly that the following attack by Japanese torpedo planes had them thinking that they were striking a different target. Even after the torpedo planes put two more Longlances into her side, teams still fought to keep her afloat until she lost power. A team went back aboard her to attempt salvage so an ocean going tug could once again bring her to port. It was finally the two torpedos of a Japanese sub that dealt her a mortal blow along with one more striking the USS Hamman. Need more? Check out the salvage of the USS Franklin at the Battle of Okinawa, where she took incredibly devastating damage from Kamakazi attacks was saved by her teams to make it back to home port and be repaired. So yes, there is quite a difference in the abilities and success between the two navies.

Interesting. But not even a mention of the US sending (in clear) a message from Midway about fictitious troubles with their desalisination plant, that the Japanese then included in it's own messages saying they'd heard that their target's desalisination plant had problems? This confirmed Midway as the target.

Entire situation was suspicious. Kangaroo court with no findings. No mention of knowing it’s last location and underwater search using modern technology. If found they could provide reasons for the possible sinking but no one’s interested. They just wanted to get rid of the ship.

''Day of Deceit'' details how the US navy had cracked all Japanese codes , military and civilian at least a year before Pearl Harbor. So a couple of people in Washington, including Roosevelt, knew exactly when and where the Japanese fleet were going to attack from. This information was denied to both the naval and army commanders of the base at Pearl Harbor. The US fleet wasnt even supposed to be be in Hawaii as its home dock was San Diego and the senior admiral protested, but they were overruled by Roosevelt and ordered out there. The goal was to get the US into the war to fight Germany. If you doubt this hypothesis read that book, its all laid out. You've never wondered why the aircraft carriers were mysteriously in the south Pacific that day and not with the fleet as they were supposed to be?

2:28 as you said that, according to different sources, the brazilian navy had 3 or 4 submarines during WW2, I've checked 4 official books about this subject. The books "100 anos Força de Submarinos" (100 years submarine force, 2014) and "História naval brasileira" (brazilian naval history, v. 5, t. 2, 1985) don't say how many there were in those years. But, according to "A marinha do Brasil na segunda guerra mundial" (the brazilian navy on WW2, 1982, p. 71 and 253), "Nossos submarinos" (our sumbarines, 1986, p. 46 and 138), and "Subsídios para a história marítima do Brasil" (contributions to maritime history of Brasil, v. 5, 1945, p. 12; v. 12, 1953, p. 36), the navy had four submarines on duty during those years: Humaytá (1928-1950), Tupi (1938-1959), Timbira (1938-1959) and Tamoio (1938-1959). By the way, congratulations, your video is amazing😉

Recently there some ill fated frigate/ destroyers commissioned . They were real expensive and made from an aluminum alloy. Unfortunately the interaction of the metal the salt water and ship’s electrical system led the destruction of the hulls after a few years . Many have been decommissioned. Built by the usual suspects and not paid for by Mexico

You forgot about the word "killers" in the class description. They were battlecruisers if at all, but rather were attempt to fit a battleship into a new role in the aircraft carrier era - and had zero in common with cruisers. Different role, size, armament, armor. The largest cruisers were Des Moines class.

One HUGE sequela that was not mentioned. Without the Spanish American war , the United States would Not have been a guarantor of Philippines protection against Japan in the 1940s and a threat to the Luzon strait( Japans lifeline to south East Asian resources) Thus the US fleet would have still been in California and a Pearl Harbor attack not in the cards.

The interesting part of the Graf Spee and the decision not to fight the way back to Germany was that one of the British hits during Plate destroyed the ship's bakery. Now in nearly all other situations this would be a 'So??' situation. In the context of being alone and half the world away with no supporting facilities suddenly turned this into a significant problem and, it is claimed, one of the more significant reasons for not attempting breakout back to Germany.

There were a LOT of Battleships that suddenly exploded; some Cruisers as well. It was going on and on for over a decade from the 1890s onward, and ships all around the world were exploding without an immediately obvious cause. However, the French Navy figured it out --- the propellant charges in the magazines of these ships contained liquid nitroglycerin, which meant that when the magazines got too hot, the charges sweated that substance, causing it to pool on the floor. The slightest spark or shock could set it off, resulting in a chain reaction that would detonate the whole magazine in seconds. The solution was surprisingly simple. Navies around the world just refrigerated their magazines. Some ships would still explode in later years for other reasons (e.g., the Battleship Mutsu exploded in a Japanese harbor in World War 2, due to the notoriously unstable "Beehive" anti-aircraft shells loaded into her main magazine), but it was no longer a common event.

Dynamite.
@bobmorgan1575
@bobmorgan1575 2 күн бұрын
Nitrocellulose is NOT the same thing as sawdust soaked in nitroglycerine. Nitroglycerine is glycerol that has had one or more OH groups replaced with an NO2 group. It is very temperature and vibration sensitive and saturating sawdust with it helps to reduce that and the resulting explosive is dynamite. Nitrocellulose is formed when cotton linters or some other cellulose fiber is soaked in a mixture of nitric and sulfuric acids, and forms the base of all smokeless powders in use today. TNT is trinitrotoluene, a completely different compound from either of those. The common item is that each one has some of the sidechain molecules replace with a nitrate molecule.

Have you heard of HMS Natal? She was at anchor in the Comartry Firth next to Invergordon in Scotland. There was a party on board for the officers who had invited their families and children along. It suddenly exploded, rolled over and sank. Many people didn't get off. There is a memorial garden in the town looking over the firth. About half the hull was blown up and removed as it was a danger to shipping but the rest of her still lies upside down at the bottom.
