What paint did you use? Is it special paint? I wanna paint a dial for my boyfriend and i waa thinking to use acrylic paint
@SketchbookExplorer3 күн бұрын
I used acrylic paints.. I recommend starting with a thin layer of acrylic primer, and then building up the painting in thin acrylic layers, allowing to dry at numerous stages. I hope that helps.

what do you use to clean the letters on the dial
@SketchbookExplorer7 ай бұрын
I used isopropyl alcohol to clean off any misplaced paint, before it properly dried. I hope that helps.
@ItsDeffoScott7 ай бұрын
I think the issue for a lot of these is a lack of detail via the miniscule painting method. If it was painted huge and scanned or via a digital painting method you could shrink it down and uv print it onto a dial. Then via tiny stippling some use to turn posters into faux paintings, you could have a mini portrait.
@SketchbookExplorer7 ай бұрын
Yes, it’s incredibly difficult to paint on such a tiny area. I wanted them to be handcrafted, and not just stuck on paper dial prints. But your suggestion is very interesting, I will definitely look into it. Thank you.
@mattsutton88047 ай бұрын
Being a craftsman myself I have had many an encounter with disasters. Well done for continuing with the project. Sometimes the finished piece turns out better the the original idea. Great work. Really like the uv resin. Holds many possibilities. 👍🏻👍🏻

Sorry, don’t wanna be the one, cause everyone here said nice stuff as I see but for me its a no, no. Summary of how I wasted my money. Good thought but very bad application IMO.
@SketchbookExplorer7 ай бұрын
Hi, Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and tastes. Feel free to let me know If you have constructive suggestions on how the application process could be improved in the future from any of your own experiences on similar projects.
@Emilmarch7 ай бұрын
Luckily, you are not a watchmaker. Worst handling ever. Dial failed big time. Where’s the day window? What happened to the day? If you weren’t planning to utilize that feature why didn’t you choose a different movement suitable for the job? Those strokes were both delicate at all and am not trying to demoralize or demotivate you but trying to be honest, maybe you will try again with a more professional approach. I think you are more youtuber than a watch guy and just needed some content.
@SketchbookExplorer7 ай бұрын
I am not a watchmaker, or even a massive watch nerd, and never said I was. From a creative project point of view, I just wanted to give it a try, and share my experience . It was not just done for content. I actually wanted to see if I could do it, and then add an artistic touch, and then share the experience. Why not.
@stubronstein99327 ай бұрын
After all that effort you've created a watch where it is hard to actually tell the time. Form and function should be in balance. Including some indices, which could have been quite subtle, would have enhanced the aesthetics of the dial and also improved its usability.
@SketchbookExplorer7 ай бұрын
Interesting point. I could always add indices in the future. But I wanted to try to focus the balance more towards art than function on my second watch project. Personally I have no problem telling the time with the watch, and I always have a mobile phone, if I need a very precise time. Thanks for the suggestion though, I will bare it in mind for the future.

@@SketchbookExplorer I disagree with the comment - the art is what makes this watch unique. Keep doing you!

So how come the top luxury marvelling watches made by companies like Jacob & Co. and Richard Mille, tourbillon models etc. are practically impossible to read time with? I feel like watches derive their magnificence from the passion of their makers. Consider it an art piece, instilling confidence, like other jewellery.

Yes, it is waterproof.. though that shouldn’t be a problem inside the watch. I also varnished it to ptetect against UV light. They are Golden Fluid Acrylic Inks, and the Acrylic Phosphorescent Green was also by Golden Acrylics. Hope that helps.

Saw your video and i have a question - if i may. Sadly, I find myself only liking watches that are very expensive. But I don't care about the name, so my question is : Is it possible to have someone (not me!) make a watch from scratch by buying the parts to make my dream watch? Is this possible?
@SketchbookExplorer7 ай бұрын
I guess it is possible, it just depends on the custom style you are looking for, and the parts.

Nice colour scheme!!! My suggestion if you are doing this again is to mask the hour markers (you could use solder heat tape and cut it to size) but otherwise lovely job. I'm crap with putting on hands. I obliterated a few second hands by accident so am nervous doing this again. Namoki have a good selection of parts, I've looked on their website before.
@SketchbookExplorer8 ай бұрын
Thanks :) Yep, I have been looking into ways to mask the markers, when I decide to leave them in place. Thanks for the tip. And yes, the seconds hands are a very tricky.. Though, once I started opening up movements to fix them, I discovered a whole other world of trickiness.
@rockymntdan18 ай бұрын
@@SketchbookExplorerI wouldn't bother masking the seconds. Almost impossible in my opinion.opt instead for a chapter ring with second markers.

Hi there, very impressive work! I am doing the exact thing you are doing here, except I am only painting on cupboard using the acrylic paint. The acrylic paint is doing the job, but it is very hard to blend(given the micro size of my brush tips) May I know what kind of paint are you using? It looks like you are using the acrylic to paint but I am not so sure. Thanks again!

Thanks. For this video, I mainly used standard acrylic paints, but I have also been using acrylic inks for this type of work, and they could be worth a try, especially when it comes to blending. I hope that helps.
