I can hit the Pedal Bb just fine but as soon as I move the slide out the notes escape me.

Dr. Irmtraud Tarr (Ed Tarr's wife, psychologist and retied lecturer for performance at the Universität Mozarteum Salzburg in Vienna) and I made the same observations about the same circumstances. We both suffered from horrid nerves on our original main instruments. One reason was the expectation, that as a professional performer, IT MUST BE PERFECT. But we're not. She then a couple decades ago started learning string bass. I, on the other hand had stopped playing trumpet and in around 1991 I started trombone. Now, string bass for her and trombone for me, were "only" secondars instruments. You simply can't be expected to play perfectly, so that pressure lifted. She reported, as I'd experienced it, we both got mild butterflies about 24-72 hours before a gig. But when we actually went to play, we could relax. We're going to make a mistake or two, so ... dont' sweat about it. You will not die because of it and the audience will not stone you. Since then, I only got nervous once, the year before I took my trombone exams I played the Serocki and just before the 2nd movement, the nerves hit, I simply concentrated on nothing more tha playing beautiful tons on the slow movement - regardless of right or wrong. And the nerves melted away. But that just me (and Irmy). Your mileage will vary.

I've ordered the Obligato with the "Pollard" shank. This will be my third Long Island Brass mouthpiece. The second one was better than the first and I look forward to the improvements this make in my playing.

Im watching the valve combinations you’re using and I think I noticed something. What is the horn tuned to valve wise? I think the functions of the first and second valve are swapped from the bass trombone from what I think I noticed
