Anyone who doesnt think this is REAL horror, like Gimme Shelter, has watched Cannibal Holocaust 5 times too many.
@cwdkidman22669 күн бұрын
The scene is underplayed and understated in dialogue. It makes it 100 times more effective and horrible. And they only,have to hide the body for a day,or two. No,one knows,their names. Or where they're from. 70s movies never explain themselves. And the guns? They dont want to be caught with them. The 4 actors did all their own stunts. ALL. THEY SURVIVE BY DUMB LUCK. AND THEY KNOW IT. This movie is about a,lot of things, mostly American hubris and Vietnam. Actually, what is it NOT about? They dont want doctors finding a gun wound on Drew. This is classified as Southern Gothic Horror. Like Baby Jane and Sweet Charlotte. Or a,NYC 70s Sister Ray.
@typhenstein9 күн бұрын
Yea it's a crazy dark movie that flies under most radars. The fact that Reynolds almost breaks his neck during the first car stunt is crazy. I'll also have to check out the other movies you listed, never heard of them before.

@@typhensteinwhat really annoys me in most reviews of Deliverance is the backseat directing and the why-did-they-do-thats? I hear. People don't turn into Rambo at the drop of a hat. People do and say crazy things under stress. They don't always do the rational thing that Monday morning quarterbacks suggest. What if they kept the guns but got stopped by a sheriff from the bank before they had a chance to dump the guns? What if the guns were identifiable as belonging to someone else? Why bother with a deep grave for the first body? They just need a day or two to get back to their cars and home. No one knows them. Then Drew doesn't geay and... Drew is the only one who would not be affected by going to the cops. Bobby would be told he enjoyed it. Ed would be a coward for not saving Bobby. Lewis would be asked what exactly he could see and hear when he fired the arrow. All Lewis really could see was his friend on his knees before 2 guys, one of whom had a shotgun. But he reacted quickly and didn't wait to find out the extent of the threat. We see Ed nod. Lewis is the guy who wants to be Rambo. But look at his face when Mountain Man is dying. He looks as shocked as Ed. But he recovers when he realizes what he could be tried for. This is one of the most ripped-off movies in history. Pulp Fiction even nods to it. Carrie. Texas Chainsaw. Every fish out of water horror movie. And look at the remakes of Straw Dogs and I Spit On Your Grave. Transferred from England and Connecticut to the rural South. Deliverance is just vague and general enough to hint at all sorts of themes. A movie, a good one, like Southern Comfort is too specific.it can only be about one or two things. The simplicity of Deliverance is big enough to hold America.
@cwdkidman22668 күн бұрын
My mistyping: Then Drew does what he does or gets shot. And Lewis: "We're seeing this country like the first settlers did." So I'm not pulling American Hubris out of nowhere. Deliverance is America's Blow-Up. The Conversation and Blowout tried Blow-Up with sound but couldn't resist providing answers. And all the Deliverance clones answer questions that Deliverance simply asks. And when you look at post-New Hollywood horror, all films have the DNA of the New Hollywood Movement's 4 deworkings of Horror: Rosemary's Baby then Night Of The Living Dead (both 1968) then Deliverance 1972 and The Exorcist 1973. Even Jaws can be seen as a riff on Deliverance: handful of guys in trouble with one way out. Does it matter that it's a shark or a murderous backwoodsman? Not really. Both represent danger. You can even go further back, to Howard Hawks, who invented the guys-in-troiuble with no help handy film, with Rio Bravo and The Thing From Another World 1951. Or Hawks' 1939 Only Angels Have Wings. But for Hawks it was a chance to create a group that was eminently likeable and see them get out of trouble. With a low body count because he liked people too much to kill them off. And last, how can you tell Deliverance is not just a very good thriller? The typical action movie would end when Lewis kills the rapist. Deliverance is smart enough to know that that was just the start of their problems.
