The Collingwood player number 13 went nuts that's not what collingwood are all about in a Collingwood supporter and i don't like seening that at all it's bad enough in the modern game I have Breden Maynard starting fights he's a thug he really is I can't defend him all the rest of the Collingwood players are good players and all I can finish on is go Collingwood for 2025 and get into the grand final and win we need another cup to make 17 the most ever won go pies

Pre- game bet, Carlton by 5 goals It made the final quarter exciting and it was a buzz to hear 'You know your football' when I collected I could see very early in the season Carlton were going to win in '87 They had the lot and used it Blistering pace all year...no-one went close Only the bombers in 2000 looked better and I'd pick the bombers v this blues outfit, 87 v 2000...Carlton 13 years ahead if the comp in '87

Dons had 22 on the field , it would be an understatement to say the umpires were worded up, it's a real blurt on our great game , stood out like dog balls on a hairless cat! Carlton couldn't earn a free nor get paid a Mark for any reason. Don't barracks for neither team but gee the umpires rattled Carlton early and full credit to them for even putting up a fight, if I were coach I would of told the players to walk off. Sheedy taught them to play dirty , head hunt off the ball, and play for frees none stop. Baby bombers were a great team none the less , but the boys in white destroyed the moral, and really hurt them, all credit to the blues for holding it together.
@melthoidserendipity1332Ай бұрын
The umpires were a disgrace. How they favour the team that are hunting the player and not the ball has got me beat. That thug in the number 21 jumper should have been rubbed out for 6 weeks for what he did to Hanna. Somerville throwing the elbow. It frustrated Carlton supporters that they didn't draft tough nuts like a Mark Johnston or Gary Ayres type. They didn't handle Essendon's aggression at all. The were rattled by it. In 99 the Blues just soaked it up No fear.

What's funny about this was all the usual talk of the Cats have handbags...Jefferey's was this talented, yet erratic defender who was best known for trying to take a screamer at every contest! Rhys-Jones had clearly picked his 'soft' target and 'whack!' He collects him beautifully.

Sheedy gave birth to the modern game and this final was a tactical masterclass. I was a baby myself when I started barracking for the baby Bombers but man, what a final and what a brilliant team! Forgot what a dirty player Dipper was! Anyway this was proper footy, Lou Richards and all! Really enjoyed watching a game I am sure would’ve been on the telly at my old’s house, but that I was too young to remember.

I was 25 years old in 1984 and lived 10 minutes from Windy Hill. My best mate and I followed Essendon in the 70's, when the faces that appeared on the footy cards for the bombers were, Alan Noonan, Geoff Blenthyn, Daryl Gerlach, Robin Close, Ken "the racehorse" Fletcher (Capt) Neville Fields, whom we exchange for Terry and Neale Daniel, and our star centre half back, Barry Davis, who went to North (the dirty dog/traitor). Being pinned to the bottom of the ladder at the time, had its benefits as any win was like a grand final win. Solidarity ran across the board as everyone pitched in to save Footscray when they were struggling. Football was still our game, the working class. Local communities would gather each Saturday afternoon, and the old dears with their knitting would come for the reserves and warm up their vocal cords slagging off white maggots, ready for the firsts. In 1980 the baby bombers were hatched Kevin Sheedy was the mid-wife...he had them incubated somewhere. It was an exciting time. I remember in 1982 Essendon had lost the first seven games on the trot and were facing top of the table Collingwood at Waverly Park. I still vividly remember reading the team line up, and on paper at least, the bombers had a top side, so I took every bet I could on Essendon that week. My mate and I went to Waverly Park for the game. A record crowd of 77,000 saw the bombers cream Collingwood and go on to win 15 games straight (I won a tidy $100 even, not to be sneezed at in those days), only to drop the last game to Geelong, once again at Waverly Park, and with it went the double chance. The following week in the elimination final, Essendon fielded a team of the walking wounded. Simon Madden had a broken hand, for one, and Fitzroy disposed of us without to much trouble After the drubbing in the 1983 final , we felt sure that 84 was our year.......well up until quarter time of the 84 final. By the end of the day we didn't care if the world blew up, Essendon were premiers in the greatest comeback since Carlton Collingwood in 1970. I remember being at my Gran's in 1970 when half time scores were flashed across the TV in black and white, and Carlton was 44 points down. Everything was better back then. Corporate take over of football was opposed by football fans, and it has destroyed the game, cut the heart out of it. The introduction of more teams is solely a money making exercise, it has done nothing to improve the game. This is true of every facet of our lives, as the youth today have been shafted by an economic system in its death throes, and our inability to remove pyschopaths that refuse to relinquish power. The buck stops with "we the people". We need to take back control and above all, take back our humanity.

The season where Essendon. lost its first 6-7 games and won 15 in a row was 1981. In 1984 I was aged 29-30 and waited many years since the 1965 win and narrow 3 point loss in 1968 GF to arch enemy Carlton. I remember 1981 well coming just a few weeks after Neal Daniher won the early August game at Princes Park with a mark and late goal to record a 1 point win. I thought it might be our year then but as you correctly stated it was just another 3-year wait for that memorable gutsy effort with a 9 goal last quarter
