Question do you know of any other manufacturers that make metal frames like this particular car that you profile at the end of this video
@happyocd
@happyocd 5 күн бұрын
Revoslot are the only cars I know of that come with metal chassis today although there are a couple other bare metal ones out there. Pendel slot racing in England sells Penelope Pitlane Chassis which I believe are stainless steel. There was another company, I don't know if they are still around called Plafit that I believe made a 1/32 adjustable chassis. I know for sure they did a 1/24th one. Playing Mantis makes an adjustable chassis but it's only available in a set with a car body like the Batmobile or Green Hornet sedan. Then you have the Monogram and Revell brass and metal chassis from the 1960's. I would google to see if anyone else knows of one.

I completely agree with you. My Scalextric cars a poor quality. The chassis is all plastic and tires are hard rubber that have absolutely no grip. The cars are hard to control and loose in the turns. I will no longer buy them.

Just came across this, Jim - great video. I only have one LM car, a Mazda - which has not seen the track yet. For these cars, I really focus on the looks rather than performance, though I imagine they could be made to run a little faster with some effort. The cost is what keeps me from buying more; I occasionally see LM cars available for around $100, and that helps. The thing is - these are (usually) cars that aren't available anywhere else. Thanks for posting!

Thanks for the comments. What makes them appealing is that, as you also mentioned, they are not available anywhere else but in resin. You can get them to run very well if you invest the time. I have a few with a lot of miles on them that I have tuned. The only way I will ever buy another MMK is if I find a used one very cheap. They are definitely NOT worth the money compared to other brands. I picked up two other LeMans cars this week I may do a video on if I can get the time. I am also going to check out your channel, some good content there. Thanks again!

Many thanks for the heads up! I have an older Scalextric GT Super Cup set w/ the 911s. Nice cars. In 2017 I was able to get the #2814 Mercedes 300 SLR and the #3325 Ford GT40. Beautiful models! The Revell/Monogram models (2008ish?) are nice also. By the way those models with the adjustable chassis reminds me of the old days racing 1/12th. scale R/C road racers - one tweak at a time. Subbed! Edit: Now I recall; you have that cool Suzuka layout!

I’m sorry, but I personally wouldn’t have bought any more MMK cars after the first one. If I pay that much money for a car, it better be at least the same quality as the LM cars.

Yes, common sense would dictate a ceasing of additional purchases, however, I bought about 20 cars at once. Some were so bad that I sent them back. The others I take as a challenge to rectify and make correct. These are models that no one else makes so my desire to own them was my motivation to fix them. I'm retired and my hobbies keep me busy. I can say 100% that I will never buy another MMK car. More videos to follow on that subject. Besides, if it wasn't for guys like me taking chances, we wouldn't have the opportunity to save others from making mistakes.

In the UK Scalextric prices are more reasonable, on average Carrera cars are 15 to 20% more expensive. In my opinion slot-it are the best value for money car on the market.

A great video, very informative. I've got some of these from Le Mans Miniatures, MMK, and Top Slot, and I totally agree with your analysis. I run all non-magnetic and like you usually end up putting Paul Gage tires on them, so I do race these cars on my track. The MMK cars I usually have to do a lot of work on them to get them to run the way I want them to. And I find the lack of headlight covers on the MMK to be irritating. Also, the way some come with parts you have to install yourself is irritating. I had some Racers in the past but no longer (long story) and they definitely are larger than other 1/32 brands. Beautiful cars though. And they are very quick for sure. Thanks for the excellent video.

I hope you enjoy my comparison of some Resin 1/32 slot cars. I convey an honest depiction and share my experiences to advance the hobby and help others. I know Le Mans miniatures and MMK are both made in France, but for the purpose of this video I am not bashing French quality in general, just a specific manufacturer. Vive la France! I honestly cannot totally agree with all the points raised, i have been buying Scalextric since the 1970's and find the current models so much more detailed especially the character models (Bond, Batman for example). I would however agree they are expensive this side of the pond and when I go back home to the UK I normally buy at a much better price, I believe exchange rates and export shipping load the price in the US & Canada. I have to add that I have been a little disappointed with the few NInco and Carrrera models I have bought for lack of detail and performance, I should say that I am not a purist and don't really take them apart to examine the engineering, however I respect your opinions but I just don't share them all in my experience.

I’ve had a couple of real duds from Scalextric and have previously made my thoughts known on my own channel. To be fair, some of the newer ones have been rather good by comparison, but yes indeed, they seem very inconsistent with quality control and way overpriced compared to all other brands.

Both Scalextric and Carrera need to have a word with themselves and justify pricing ,iv just bought a Policar Subaru is £28 and is far better components and Quality and the cars arent even decaled which bulk buying of components is not expensive to the manaufacturer, thats how you make money making things ,buy in bulk, build items ,selling the cheap individual components at a higher price in something

If you consider that all hobbies can be expensive it's not too bad. It also depends on how deep you want to go into the hobby. Casual racing with the family, club racing, or insanity with building and collecting like I do once the OCD takes hold 😁 Slot cars are a lot of fun, if you haven't tried them yet find a friend or a shop (that sells starter sets) and they can walk you through the basics. Then, most importantly, DON'T TELL YOUR GIRLFRIEND OR WIFE HOW MUCH IT COSTS!

Please, please do not mention "made in China" as something negative when talking about quality. In fact, having them (the german products) manufactured in China is a bonus. You get the quality you want. I know from own experience in various fields how extremely quality minded chinese people are. Please, for the love of God, stop spreading this misinformation.

What?? "Oily Dog Racing"? What an utmost brilliant name!
@happyocd
@happyocd 2 ай бұрын
Thanks! That name stemmed from one of my friend's silly comments. His daughter was allergic to dogs and he did not want her to be around mine. I have always had Schnauzers, I currently have 3. I told my friend his daughter would be OK around my dogs because the Schnauzer doesn't shed. He said "maybe but they are oily dogs". Another one of my buddies drew up the cartoon dog based on my first Schnauzer. The two were joined and viola, Oily Dog Racing was born!

Brother I hear you loud and clear!!!! They are no longer worth the money. I refuse to buy another one , this is a robbery of the consumers. Fit and finish is trash. I'm not going to pay the same price for a toy brand car as I would for a hobby quality such as , (NSR , SIDEWAYS , SCALE AUTO)… The only way to fix this is to not buy there products. Sure they make some of the cars we might want , but quality is a must for me.Before you know it we will be asked to pay 100.00 a car. For me it's not going to happen. Thanks for the video , you are telling the truth brother. Video is on point.

I quit buying them as soon as they went up. They are just to cheap to pay that price. I have a large 4 lane carrera track and I can say, a carrera car is 100% more durable than a scalextric. And if you invest 30$ in the carrera, it will blow the scalextric car off the track. Scalextric is only screwing their customers and they don't care. To them it's about the money and it show's. Also, if you take that same 30$ and put it into a scalextric car, then you have a cheap 80$ to 90$ dollar car

I am looking into purchasing a Slot Race set for my son. I use to race slots back in the mid 60's. We built our own cars. Purchased Monogram or Revell plastic models for the bodies for the chassis. All from scratch, they were cheaper than out of the box. What company do you recommend? I keep reading Carrera and Scalextric brand are TOYS compared to other companies. Can you clarify the difference between Toy and Pro slots. Are pro slot car digital or analog? Any information would be appreciated. A lot of upfront money and I would like to get it right.
@Scale_Slotcars_Latvia

They are all toy cars .but eleteist like to call some pro and some toys . I would recommend getting a carrera evolution set as your first choice ...you can then race many other brands without buying digital chips . Brands like Revoslot ,thunderslot, BRM, would be called Pro by some people. With Carrera track you can also race 1/24 scale slotcars like BRMs ...don't fall for the toy vs pro cars argument. Put 4 scalextric cars on a for lane track and you will just as much fun as four so called pro cars . Club racers shout the loudest about pro vs toy cars ....if your home racing ignore the pro vs toy (experts) 😅 Greetings....Harry
