I'd love to see this returned to nature. It would mean we have to replenish water reeds (native bamboo)

We saw them for the first time this year on our property, swarming on a poplar. I think I got them controlled, but who knows where else they are. Wish these Walmart parking lots would clear out the tree of heaven forests they’re nurturing…

I’ve been wondering how long it takes for water to reach a level where our well can reach it. We’re up on a ridge with very dense, but rocky clay soil and it seems like rain rarely makes it very far down. Might even be hardpan. Does it shed downhill and then reach the water table? People always say when it rains “oh you don’t have to worry about your well now,” but I can’t imagine it immediately makes it in there…

Hi Ryan! Awesome video! I’m from Meadville and love learning about the history of our geography and geology. Could you explain to me whether the Meadville hills surrounding the city area, are left from the geologic material not being eroded or if they were created by deposits. Kind of like an esker. Or if the hills are moraine in nature.

Hi Seth, The hills around Meadville PA are made up of The Cuyahoga Group. This is a Mississippian layer of light colored shale and fine-textured blue sandstone about 150 feet thick. It overlays Berea Sandstone.

All the areas around us have many of these invasives growing strong, so try as we may, I don’t think we’ll ever be able to rid ourselves of them. Especially the bittersweet. Flocks of cedar waxwings and other birds spread the seeds everywhere. They are strangling our woods. Unless everyone gets rid of these, it seems and feels hopeless…but we do what we can. At least I don’t have tree of heaven…🫠 Stiltgrass is another current battle, feels like I’m losing, there’s just so much of it everywhere.

Garden Marker is what I use. I haven’t had great success with winter sowing but I’m ready to try again. I’m in Greene county…is the Fox Chapel location the closest spot to me where I can purchase the seeds?

Thank you for this awesome presentation! I learned a lot of information that I can apply to my own garden design!

Great information! (even though I’m in North Ga). I never knew Tree of Heaven looked so much like sumac and black walnut! Thank you so much for the useful tips on controlling or killing some of these. I had always been against herbicide but listening to this made me realize that it can be used sparingly to kill a lot of the more tough vines and trees.

Wish the damned trees of heaven were easier to manage. I can get them to where they don't seed anymore, by girdling & that might eventually kill them, so long as I pay attention for suckered for the next several years, but that's about it.

Enjoyed presentation. However will quibble about Pittsburgh photo. Think photo taken from West End Overlook (not Mt Washington) and arrow not pointed at Troy Hill, maybe Polish Hill/Hill District.

Great talk, I learned a lot! Thanks. Where I live in Eastern Ontario, everything here is invasive - 10K years ago it was glaciated!
