I picked up sewing for my daughter recently and completed my first CC project! I made the Lucy jumper and it’s absolutely adorable on her. It was a joy to work on and she loved seeing her new dress come together as I worked on it. We are excited to dive into more projects!

Thanks so much. I just got a second-hand pleater and thought I couldn't use it without a dowel. This helps!

Really like this technique. I am new to smocking so these videos helps a lot. Question. Did you remove the pleating threads before ironing the freezer paper or do you remove them after the pieces are sewn together? Thank you.
@Childrenscornerstore2 күн бұрын
After the pieces are sewn together is reccomended.

I do t understand what the point is to cut the lining shorter than pants when you matched up the bottoms…and it looked like the top/waistband also matched?
@Childrenscornerstore4 ай бұрын
Cutting the lining shorter will automatically pull the outer fabric towards the inside giving a much cleaner look along the bottom of the pants. You will view the fold of the outer fabric rather than the seam line.

Melissa, I am working on my first Nora right now! Too late to alter length. Do you think a shortened bodice looks better on a 3 year old? I was wondering if drop waist was too grown up.

Hello! I taught French hand sewing, duplicate stitch, and smocking in the 1980’s. I was living in VA and took classes from Elizabeth Johnson, Kitty Benton, Margaret Boyle, etc. I’m very familiar with using Bee’s wax while sewing. My chatelaine (that I still use) had a Bee Thread Waxer attached. I loved and still do love using the bee’s wax to condition my threads before any needlework. Does anyone still use a Chatelaine?
@Childrenscornerstore4 ай бұрын
It’s a product we remember from the past but not familiar with now. Conditioning threads is such a game changer!

This is an excellent idea. I’ve already showed it to my granddaughter and my great niece. One question……. The interfacing to reinforce the pocket top was this on the inside of the dress? To show when turned inside out? Or was it on the actual pretty side of the fabric to be covered up by the pocket. I prefer a clean inside. I love the side pocket version of this as well. My granddaughter wants it exactly like this. She’s 6.
@Childrenscornerstore6 ай бұрын
The interfacing is on the wrong side of the fabric in this tutorial. Happy sewing! You can find all the product links and full instructions on our blog: www.thecornerstitch.com/post/lucy-with-purse-pocket!

@Childrenscornerstore7 ай бұрын
I would take the same care as you would with any smocked garment. And the shorter the stitch length you use the sturdier it will be.

Hi! I’m a first-time viewer of your channel. I’m curious . . . is this video sponsored by DMC or does it just happen to be the brand you prefer? I kept wondering why you continued to refer to “embroidery floss” as DMC. It makes me think that you’re pushing the brand. Please don’t take offense; I really am just curious. Thanks for sharing this method. 🙂
@catecoleman98527 ай бұрын
Near me about 90% of embroidery floss is DMC. Like many people don't say "facial tissue", they say Kleenex even if it's a different brand like Puffs. Same with Band-Aid brand bandages.
