No,it wouldn't .It's a very masculine dance.Sometimes using batons or swords instead of handkerchiefs.The girls danced around the maypole.Don't forget these are pre-christian pagan festivals in origin,and modified through the ages with influences from "Moorish " (Morris)spain,courtesy of our seafaring history.There are many regional variations.
