Tunney was 6'1" & 170. Ali was 6'3" & 212 or so in his prime, SUPER FAST and just way too skilled. But that's the obvious; there's Foreman, Holmes, Bowe, Lennox... just WAY too big and with better, more modern technique.

Sonny Liston was a very complicated man, and in his prime he was a human wrecking machine in the ring, just remember Sonny was in his forties when he fought the great Ali.

So dazed Tunney finally looks up at the ref at the actual count of 8. With his awkward sitting position, I don't think he could have gotten fully up by the count of 10. I feel sorry for Dempsey with that new rule that cost him his moment of greatness.

This only goes to show just how much a badass was Harry Greb who was quite a bit smaller and only had vision in one eye for his fights with Tunney.

*I'm no Boxing analyst, but Gene Tunney is the first of the Old-Time Boxers that I can tell,* *that would Dance and Bob and use Boxing skills to Win Fights.*

If only Jack had gone to the corner straight away when the referee had told him. He might have regained the world title or at least made it a harder fight for Tunney. To be honest Tunney was dazed but not really out. He started getting up straight away and looking around even though he was struggling. I think he would have made the count even without those extra seconds but he would have been a bit shaken and would have eventually regained momentum. Tunney was a very intelligent and crafty man who still had enough of his senses to take advantage of the extra seconds of the count.
@manonfire3642 Жыл бұрын
You evidently weren't watching the clock. Tunney could not have regained his feet in nine seconds. Would a 3rd fight have been much different? Dempsey was out-classed and never changed techniques, always ducked low allowing his brains to be battered by not seeing what the other guy was doing. Oh well, that's life.
@joephil9 Жыл бұрын
@@manonfire3642 He was already looking at the referee when the official count had reached 4 seconds which would have been 9 seconds from the time he actually went down. It's just my oppinion that I think he could have made the count not necessarily that he would have. The point I made in my previous post is under that amount of pressure he remained calm enough not to panick and try to get to his feet at the official count of 4 when he still had 6 seconds left to beat the official count. Tunney used his commonsense didn't he? That's why I said he was a very intelligent and crafty man.

Great fighter if you were to put Gene Tunney against 2022 boxers he would pulverized them.Boxers back in those earlier eras were really strong and can go 15 rounds easily.Even after reaching round 15 they still had stamina and strength they had in rounds one and two.

Gene Tunney 82-1. Gene took technical boxing to the next level. Gene would interview boxers that fought upcoming his opponents in the past and he would take notes. He would watch videos of his upcoming opponents and he would take notes. Gene was knocked down once in his career and yet he wasn't ever knocked out in all of his fights. He won his final fight, retired, vacated the belt cause he said he had nothing left to prove and he didn't want to deal with long-term damage. Other fighters that fought and never stopped, Sam Langford, Harry Greb, etc, all got damaged and lost vision/went completely blind. Gene Tunney served as chief trainer in WW2. He was a veteran of WW1 and was the champion boxer in the armed forces boxing. Gene was smart with his money and avoided the troubles from the Great Depression stock market crash. He died at 81 years old. Absolute badass.
