I know the feeling. When i moved into my new area all the regulars saw me as a threat. Asking what i collect, look for ect. Met some good people and some bad ones. Working as a team means most of the time everyone wins. My go to when rocking up early if they say no is holding up a wad of cash saying im here to spend its up to you. Works most of the time.

Most feel entitlement because they’ve been doing it longer. Spoken to plenty who don’t like the ‘internet’ and newcomers, which they believe has ruined the old garage sale days.

I don't get it. I'm just clearing out stuff. Sold some things but not a lot. The weirdest items sell sometimes. I could not care less if someone can make money off my stuff. If I get something and someone else can use it or enjoy it great.

That's an interesting question and one that a lawyer would need to answer. There are strong laws protecting personal information. The following is not legal information, just speculation. Have you opened a can of worms? The way I see it, the Storage Unit owners have basically sold that information to you and I would be very surprised if that was legal. In general, the laws seem to restrict an individual/entity/business from using an individuals personal information without their knowledge or permission. Other KZbinrs who buy Storage Units give the private stuff back to the Storage Unit Owners but they only talk about photo's, bank statements, id's, letters etc. Some have contacted the owners to give back stuff but I wouldn't, to me there's a risk of it being seriously problematic if not dangerous. Look at your contract with the Storage Unit, some of it should be covered in there. However, you are talking about some of the stuff which isn't personal in nature but what could be considered confidential information that a business does not want known. That is, it is outside of being personal information about individuals. Again, look to see if there is anything about confidential information in the contract you signed. There may be nothing in there which means you haven't signed anything agreeing to keep it confidential. That doesn't mean to say there aren't laws about that but we seem to see often that there are 'leaks of confidential information', 'trade secrets' that become known and so on. If you had found the recipe for Coca Cola in a Storage Unit, I can't see why it would be a problem to sell it but your risk would be that it might not in fact be a true recipe and you would then be selling something under false pretences. The NDIS documents would be a very serious breach of privacy and given that they belong to a Government Body there would be legislation protecting ownership and disclosure. Could you go to the media to advise them of the breach, they would want to see evidence? Whistleblowers have in the past and there is a risk. Can you destroy the information? I doubt it, unless the NDIS give you written direction to do that but even then, I wouldn't do it. The owner of the unit should not have had those documents and the privacy commissioner/NDIS Department would want the evidence to prosecute. But is there anything in place to reward you and to also compensate you for your time? Just some thoughts.

Rules in Victoria say we must return personal information to the storage office.

@@DannyFlippingDeals I don't think I have a go, I saw inside friends of my brother's store shed and it was packed so tight with absolutely shit. He was paying for the storage shed for many years. I said you could have bought a whole house of brand new furniture three times over. Broken rusty fridges, broken lounges, even broken car parts. This was a few years ago. I told him to close the door and stop paying for the shed. I don't know wot he did. But I went home with my empty trailer.
