Interesting...not an actor, but am impressed when I saw an actor portraying a character in an acting class and his character wasn't good at acting. (Michael Imperioli as Christopher Moltisanti)

Interesting. I felt that acting as someone else, someone you are not, could be beneficial to overcoming shyness. You could lose yourself in the role, escape your real self, your fears, your worries as you portray someone completely different to your character. I found this not in acting, but in teaching. I would become a clown to bring humour to a class when teaching children. I really enjoyed it. I wish I had tried acting, too late now I guess, as I am now retired.

LOL I enrolled in an Absolute Beginners course near to where I live and the teacher exploited trauma and personal issues to make us tap into emotions. Ridiculous. I quit immediately and reported this behaviour to the Academy asking for a refund. I was shocked to learn that there are many theater teachers that are abusive towards students. What a disappointment.

Thanks for the comment! Your experience as a beginner can be really affected by the "wrong" teachers. In my knowledge, there's no need in a beginners' class to even get close to those aspects! You did the right thing leaving the class if you felt that way. We certainly have a different approach. If you're ever in Berlin, you can visit us! Good luck

Too many people try to put an aspect of themselves into characters and never even get close to "making it" you have to be completely able to remove ego and sometimes even pride.

It happens to me all the time where I put so much of myself into a character that I'm completely not myself at all but I find I can only do it so much before I feel burnt out and it becomes a greater challenge to stay in character.

It will make you comfortable being on camera for sure. It can improve your acting somehow if use a script for your videos or you do something very expressive
