If applied technical criteria, this is a 4-star room, not a 5-star room.
@Molloy195122 сағат бұрын
The rooms are too small for a 5-star hotel in Bangkok. On top of that, The Athenee looks pasteurized. I don’t see originality, cultural links to Thailand, or an unique atmosphere. Nothing exceptional but their location. Your review is lovely, though. Thank you
@jrlthetourist11 сағат бұрын
Thanks! I appreciate the comment. The Athenee strikes me primarily as a business hotel, both for the location and the feel of the hotel. I'm not likely to stay there again, but I do think there's a certain kind of leisure traveler who might like staying there.

Lovely video,nice commentary and music. Can you help us with some questions ? me and my wife are going to this resort in November. How expensive is the food? What are the charges like for spa? Or is there some things on the house.
@jrlthetourist9 күн бұрын
Unfortunately, I don't recall the food prices and I didn't have any spa treatments. But I just checked the web site. The restaurants have their menus online, with prices listed.

@@jrlthetourist you can do just as well in my opinion. also i see ur using dji pocket, which one is it 2? i have the new one pocket 3, its incredible. also if i may give u a tip: you need to big time upscale colours in the videos. they are looking grey. yes bkk in offseason or overcast day but editing can help punch it up BIG time
@jrlthetouristАй бұрын
Yes, I've got the pocket 2. I'll upgrade to the 3 eventually. I'll also get some ND filters to help with getting more natural movement. I'm working on figuring out the color correction. I'm not at a point where I want to hire anyone to do it and I'm a bit wary of LUTs. My preference is for more vivid but natural color, so I'm figuring it out.

I’ve stayed at all of the Marriott properties in Bangkok (except the st Regis). The JW is by far my favorite hotel out of the Marriott portfolio. As a titanium member, I love the benefits, and the executive lounge. The gym and pool are great

The suites have toto toilets. I hate it when hotels devalue the normal rooms so much and deprive them of facilities that are actually a standard feature.

That is interesting information. You would think they'd have upgraded the toilets in all the room during the recent renovation.

Koreans fill up half of the SGS these days (Korea Town is next door, too). That's why there's a dedicated Korean station now. If you go to the front desk you'll find half of them working are also Korean for the same reason.

Go to the Peninsular. Rosewood isn’t the best in Hong Kong, not even close.
@jrlthetourist2 ай бұрын
I've never stayed at The Peninsula, but I did visit with a friend who was staying there. It was a nice room, but the hotel is almost 100 years old and was last renovated ten years ago. It would be hard to compete with Rosewood, opened in 2019, on hard product. That said, The Peninsula is an amazing property and has the heritage. From the consumer prospective, it ultimately comes down to preference.

no way this is the best 5 star in Suk. it doesn't even come close to JW in terms of rooms and service
@jrlthetourist2 ай бұрын
I can see a case for preferring the JW to the Sheraton Grande, but I don't believe it doesn't come close. They're very comparable properties and much will come down to personal preference.

@@jrlthetourist Also Marriot classifies Sheraton under the premium tier while JW is under the Luxury tier
@AlexPaluzzi2 ай бұрын
@@warrenx82 I stay at SGS and JW all the time and hard disagree. Yes we know that Sheraton is a tier lower than JW on the brand guide, but that really doesn't apply to the SGS. It is a very known outlier in the Marriott community. Sheraton is more central, it's literally connected to the Asok BTS station. The service is great. The rooms are a little dated. And honestly the bar (which you just barely catch a glimpse of at the end of this video) - Barsu - is one of the nicest bars with live music and awesome staff on Sukhumvit. You'd have to go the whole way to Thong Lor to find something comparable. JW is also nice, but it's different. It's more business oriented. It's filled with a lot more westerners. It's also literally across the street from Nana Plaza which may or may not be your bag. But it's not as central, the bar isn't as nice. JW pros: the rooms are nicer (especially the suites) and the breakfast beats the hell out of SGS breakfast. If you care about the breakfast, you want JW or Marquis, not SGS. But "doesn't even come close to JW" is just not true.

Nice video. Conrad Bali is actually located in Tanjung Benoa (a town immediately north of Nusa Dua). But since Nusa Dua is a symbol of prestige and it happens to be close by, why not call it Conrad Nusa Dua. Tourists won't know. Conrad beachfront resort does not belong in Tanjung Benoa. It should be in prime Nusa Dua (ITDC) or Uluwatu or Seminyak. That said, Conrad is actually an excellent resort, IMO. The only drawback is, well, the location.
@jrlthetourist2 ай бұрын
I agree. The location is not ideal. Would be better on one of the nicer stretches of beach down in Nusa Dua proper. That said, I did enjoy my time on the property, especially for the room rate.
