Despite the long wait, the episode doesn't disappoint and Pauls shopping POV was a great throwback to the second episode. Somehow the press has not yet picked up on the rumours about the unreleased Travel Llame Netflix special.

I probably should have put my comments all together, but I watched the video in several shorter sectione, plus it would have been too long anyway. Just wanted to wish you best of luck. The sorrow and awareness of time passing, and being young and wishing to be free for longer were so painfully obvious and reasonable as you were talking about rushing, because you have to go back. Also, the chair guy sounds very unpleasant, and I hope you forgive him his ignorance. He's from a small country, small town, probably uneducated, poor, with high food and other costs to cover and without income, looking for any legal way to make a living. A very unhappy and likely also unfortunate person. Still sounds grouchy and unpleasant, but at least take comfort in the sad fact that you two are a million times more fortunate to be born in a better place and time, and can go back there anytime.

@Boricheck is right that some research is advisable, especially if you're getting off the beaten path. Especially without internet. Please don't go walking in the mountains and demolished villages you didn't inquire about before. I wouldn't. There are still mines in remote areas. Most have been cleared and are clearly marked. So it's rare. But Serbian forces were notorious for setting mines in unexpected places (including even the dead back during the war), so that they can kill as many as possible at the lowest cost to themselves. They would not leave mine field maps behind for that reason. The only purpose was "cleansing" via killing. You don't want to be the one to find them, however unlikely.
@travellllama Жыл бұрын
I did do a good bit of research before entering each country, I even had a spreadsheet for the countries where we wouldn't have Internet. I researched safety (so we knew about the mines and knew not to wander off paths), visa requirements, road rules, currency and so on. However we didn't research history, because why travel if you can know everything about a place without going there...

BAM-Bosnian Mark KM-Konvertibilna Marka (Convertible mark): duting the war, Bosnia didn't want and wouldn't keep the previous currency. German marks were the most popular and most common currency in Bosnia at the time, so the new currency based on German Mark was created, a Bosnian mark, later called convertible mark, KM. I use my banking card until I can exchange money when driving or flying in without cash. (Such as your getting gas issue.) It certainly did make me feel a dose of discomfort. But the bright side is that Bosnian people are easygoing people in general, and don't like to trouble themselves too much. So most problems one can get into, someone else probably already found a fairly simple solution already, and it lead to en mas solution everyone uses. Resourceful is a good word. Whenever I get concerned about how to and what to do before getting to Bosnia, I remind myself of that, and it turns out to be resolved already, pretty much easily. But I can definitely see how that can be a little more complicated in the countryside where older people may not speak English. English is mandatory in schools, so in such situations, it's best to look for younger faces.

😂 it even says yogurt (jogurt). I thought you bought "kiselo mlijeko"(sour milk), which is another word for a form of a more liquid/soft yogurt. Thank you for making this video, and for visiting. ❤

I think we may have stopped really trying to read things and just bought things that looked right, but I also think we couldn't find milk in the shop we were in. I don't remember the situation properly anymore 🙈

The "abandoned" houses are mostly "abandoned" due to being looted and burnt down during war in the 90s. Dont get me wrong, but that is a fact that should not have been overseen by doing your due diligence about the country youre visiting. Lots of bad, bad stuff has happened, and i consider it a must know for europeans to be educated on the topic of the last war that has happened in western europe.
@travellllama Жыл бұрын
Thank you for explaining :) Unfortunately so much bad stuff has happened in recent history that our history lessons can't cover it all. Mine were focused on the troubles and the partition of Ireland, another very recent war in Europe. We don't research much of the history of countries before entering, as we feel it's part of discovering a country and it's easier to understand in the context of being there.
