I think Peter and Gordon did a cover version of this song back in the sixties which was equally as good.

I saw Rick and Levon a week or two later and it remains absolutely the best show I ever attended. Kind of like being in The Big Pink basement! Later in '83, the post Last Waltz Band would reunite and things were good for a while. But ultimately, with Richard Manuel's death, it became a long, sad trip. Danko died in December '99, and that was it for any iteration of The Band. Now, with Garth's death, The Band live no more. But their music lasts forever!

Reactionary Americans like John Birchers go off the deep end & to extremes, they believe in conspiracy theories too that are untrue. Dylan did s gutsy ahead of its time song here warning how paranoid & ridiculous they can be. Its satirical.

like Dave van Ronk another Brooklyn born boy although in his case he did everything to avoid letting anyone know that he was from a middle-class Jewish family Not that it matters like Pete Seger who is from a patrician lost family on the Hudson River they were able to play the authentic music almost as authentic as people who grew up in Appalachia where the Delta almost as authentic

It’s great to hear 👂this song live that was given to Peter and Gordon. A song 🎶 that was written by an American and not by the Beatles. I have this song 🎶 on VHS cassette when they were still being made. The VHS is entitled, “Del Shannon Live In Australia 1989.” Six months later Del Shannon took his own life.

I will leave you with Pete Seeger & Jack Elliot , both inauthentic Folk Musicians (Pete from an academic family, Jack ran away from a Middle class Jewish home) playing close to seminal American roots music. Lovely. Ha.
