Kalinnikov composed his 2 symphonies as he was struggling with Tuberculosis, and passed soon after this was completed. Makes us wonder, sadly, what he could have accomplished had he survived to live another 30-40+ years. He died right before his 35th birthday.

@@towardthesea_ theres plenty of ondine recordings of raitio but for his later works theres not really any recordings, like his opera for example

@@shadmium3471 Yes, I mean that many of the scores I have don't have any recordings. For instance, I've put up Raitio's Triple Concerto on IMSLP, but there are no commercial recordings of it and none of my contacts in Finland (where I studied for a year) know of any other type of recording in existence. People in the know tell me that many of his later manuscripts are essentially sealed away and quite hard to get access to.

That's because a lot of Hindustani music came from the Mughals, who were a Turkic people who later migrated into India - you'll find a lot of similarities in the modes that are used in Indian ragas and Turkish maqams, and in many countries in between. As someone of Indian origin with extended family who perform mostly Carnatic music (though I'm not an expert on it at all), the (Indian) tabla and jalataranga are used in a fairly idiomatic manner, and the first two movements - which are named after Carnatic musical forms - are more or less developed similarly to how they are in the actual tradition. As I mentioned, Cowell did spend a few months in then Madras (which the piece is named after), now Chennai, studying Carnatic music - he's not just writing after some vaguely "Eastern" style. It shows.
