Doesn’t the film need to be loaded in the dark?
@paultaylorphotography94995 ай бұрын
Liked and subbed mate cheers for this enjoyed it. I tried IR film way way back and failed miserably, at that time I didn't know I needed a filter and wasn't into reading instructions back then. Earlier this year I had my X-Pro2 sensor modified to to shoot 850nm black and white IR since then I can't stop shooting the thing, I have loads of sample shoots on my wee chan, it's fun and the results so far are next level gorgeous. I'm keen next summer to try a roll of IR film again, properly this time tho'. Looking forward to seeing how you go I'll be tuning in cheers.
@analoggirl165 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching and subsribing. I've hope you come around to reading instructions. LOL. I'm lookin forward to shooting the rest of the roll. I'm thinking I will try to use some stronger IR filters to see what kind of results I get and maybe do another timelapse or two
@paultaylorphotography94995 ай бұрын
@@analoggirl16 haha not sure i'm ready for actual reading just yet but ya never know. Stronger filters and good sunlight happy daze.
@DethronerX5 ай бұрын
This would look badass for a metal video, but I do understand, its not your desired results because of the overcast, so waiting to see when you do part 2. Either way, the fun in doing it and getting the results is never wasted, because we always learn something and even if there is some footage, it can always be used for one thing or the other, because even undesired results on film are beautiful to look at, just because of the physical medium and setups doing all the things. And yes, Infrared for movie film? Hell yeah! So many great ideas for movies and music videos, dream sequences, flashbacks, visions, otherworldly places, just gorgeous.

You are absolutely right. I think its important to experiment and also important to share one's "mistakes". A lot of times people are afraid/ashamed to show the process and are only willing to show the things that are "perfect".

Really cool, thanks for the video! I'm still experimenting with some old, expired (Jan '69) 16mm 50' magazines of Kodak High Speed Infrared HIR film. Definitely a different breed of film :)

Great to see you again! I subscribed this time. Is FFP developing this film? I am getting tired of it. There are a lot of sunny days now to shoot it. I bought a cheap filter then forgot about it for stills.
@analoggirl165 ай бұрын
Thanks Michael. I think they will process it. Not sure. check their web site. It is impossible to load in a Lomo. too Floppy. I started to lose my mind trying so I just did jam it in can.
@crabnebula19145 ай бұрын
Thank you so much for uploading this! I was just placing an order on FFP and was curious about this new infrared on 16mm, the infrared might be a little advanced for me, but I was curious, when you said that you hand process, what do you use? I hand process but like bucket developing in my bathroom with my own DIY cafenol developer. Also, I Am Cuba is amazing, didn't know it was partially shot on infrared!
@analoggirl165 ай бұрын
You could always play around with the stills version if you don't want to commit to a whole roll of 16mm. I used D76 for this and I process in 1/5 liter stainless developing tank. this filmstock because it is so thin did not want to load on the lomo spiral so I gave up trying to do that.

I didn't even know they sold 16mm cuts of infrared film, so thanks for sharing! Look forward to part 2
@analoggirl165 ай бұрын
Yes! As I mention in my video it may actually be the first time that it is available apart from special order. Exciting. Thanks for watching. I'm looking forward to putting on my sunscreen and shooting the rest of it over the summer. Maybe I will do another timelapse for fun.

I just got my Beaulieu R16 (automatic) working! I had someone do a custom job so I have to plug it into a power source since the batteries were shot, and I LOVE it, I usually shoot on a K3 but I wanted Beaulieu (it was also the Chris Marker camera he used to shoot Sans Soliel). This is perfect! I was curious about magazine but it sounds like more trouble than its worth. I also have a Beaulieu super 8mm and in the same predicament, would that battery pack work with the S8? The power adapter/batteries are different so I'm curious.
@analoggirl166 ай бұрын
Congrats and happy shooting. Not sure what model Super 8 you have but it may be possible to use the same power supply for both cameras..

Thanks for watching! I found out that an Irish artist made his film about the rebuilding of the World Trade Center using multiple 35mm motion picture cameras and the Norris. But the high end one that had a spot meter hooked up to it. If you google you can find a BTS of his process from CNN. I wanted to mention it in my video but cut it for time.

Your videos are a great resource on film shooting and the R16 in particular. I've shared your videos with some of my students. I teach cinematography and thanks to the renewed interest in film and shows like Euphoria, more and more of my students are asking about shooting on film. I'm currently building a battery for a recently acquired R16. As you have several R16's, I'm wondering if any of them make a clunking sound when rocked side it side. I'm planning to send the camera out for an overhaul anyhow, but I'm curious if the clunking sound is common. I had an R16 20 years ago and seem to remember in did the same thing but I can't be certain I'm remembering that correctly.
@analoggirl1611 ай бұрын
Hmmm, is it the sound of the daylight spool maybe? CLA is a must if the camera hasn't been used in awhile.

So very cool! and the prope lens telecine is genius! I also feel like there are the seeds of a DIY scanner in there if there is a way to slow down the motor a little to a rate that a camera can scan frame by frame maybe like 5-10 fps

Thanks for watching Alex. I know that people have built DIY scanners with step motors and arduino controllers using a stills camera.

I'm going to get one of these cameras one day and do you know why I would choose a Beaulieu R16 over anything else? It's just so darn beautiful looking. Just like the Citroen DS21 car I owned years ago, very quirky but so cool.

Nice and clear tutorial, thanks. Keep on the good stuff🙂 ps. I notised that your battery handle is a littlebit loose in this film. My advise to everyone is to keep the handle tight as the body of camera and the area where the tripod thread is located is very soft and it is posssible to twist or even crack the body there. A long time ago I used my first R16 on a tripod without the handle and the body around tripod socket twisted when I leant against the camera. Fortunately I managed to make the body straight again and since then I have aways kept the handle attached when using tripod.
