I’ve lived in Washington my entire life, and as I see the direction our country is heading and the increasing risk of natural disasters, I’ve been seriously considering applying to the Washington State Guard.

I qualified for every MOS, and I wanted infantry too. They asked me if I wanted to walk or ride. I said, WALK! The recruiter must have thought I was a stupid or crazy. I loved the infantry.

I’m currently a 1LT and the Primary Hand Receipt Holder (PHRH) for our HHB Battery while the rest of the unit is on rotation. I’m preparing to transition out of the Army soon, and I’m facing what I believe will be a major FLIPL. I could really use some advice or insight from anyone who has been in a similar situation. Here’s the breakdown: Initial Handover Issues: When the unit split for deployment, the property book was divided between me and the deploying battery commander. The process was rushed, and we didn’t finish the handover properly. I signed for property I felt comfortable with, and the commander said the rest would be handled later through lateral transfers. Lateral Transfer Problem: After the deployment, the forward-deployed supply NCO was directed by the battery commander to lateral transfer all the leftover property to me. I never signed for this, but since the supply NCO was on my signature card (to help with turn-ins), they processed the lateral transfer on paper as “from the supply NCO to the supply NCO.” This caused my property book to balloon from 26 pages to 47 pages without my approval. Rear-D Challenges: No Sub-Hand Receipt Holders: It’s almost impossible to assign sub-hand receipt holders in Rear-D because people are either deploying soon or leaving the unit. No Time for Layouts: Despite informing the Rear-D Battalion Commander about the situation, I was never given time to lay out the property. We had daily meetings where new tasks were assigned, leaving no time to resolve property accountability issues. No Cyclic Inventories: Monthly cyclic inventories (20%) haven’t been conducted in Rear-D, supposedly due to manpower constraints, as directed by the PBO. My Concerns: I’m trying to do everything I can to hand over my property correctly, but the systemic issues with the initial handover, irregular lateral transfers, and the challenges of being on Rear-D have created significant gaps in accountability. I feel like I’ve been set up for failure, and I want to avoid being unfairly held liable.

Maj.Josh Sternberg , your respect for the Truth and dedication to your People serving with you and your Spiritual understanding and Trust in Heaven leads me to wonder if you also gave a Judaic Heritage in your Family? Our Tradition emphasizes that there is a Reason for every Soul sent a nd born into this World, and clearly...your sensitivity to the Almighty's Will and the comradery of your Command is an example that has given me much hope for the Future of our America. This day of Chanukah, I do give thanks to the Almighty for such as you and yours and hope for His continued guidance and protection of our People and Nation,( Omen)....

I’m not a betting man, but if I was I’d bet that 1SG couldn’t make weight, pass tape or even come close to passing a physical fitness test. Extreme obesity shouldn’t be tolerated in the armed forces, especially in leadership ranks. It’s a bad look.

I recently just graduated from Air Force Senior NCO academy as an army dude. Best PME I’ve ever attended. Got more out of that than ALC or SLC. Can you expand on the “enough said” part of your comment? Trying to understand if you think Air Force academia is inferior to Army’s.

I went to MEPS in early December 1983 - less than a week after I received my Green Card. I was initially rejected by the Orthopedic Surgeon because of a compound fracture to my wrist that did not heal properly. I begged him to let me enlist. He eventually gave me a Medical Waiver since I was planning on enlisting as an AH-64 'Apache' Helicopter Mechanic. I left the MEPS with an 11X contract for Unassigned Infantry, Unassigned Aueborne, and Unassigned Special Forces. I wondet if the good Captain ever found out that I went back on my promise to stay away from Combat Arms? 🤔

I graduated from the WYCA June of 2024. It was easily the best thing I’ve ever done for myself and my family. Commandant Acuña is still at the WYA and he makes sure both himself and his staff are doing their absolute best and make it their mission to improve every cadet on campus. Yes it was hard, yes it sucked in the moment but I miss it. I miss my platoon and my cadre and after a while, you become almost like a big family. I 100% recommend this program for anyone who wants to better themselves not only for themself, but their family as well.
