It was a big tournament at Cristal Palace. I was there 3 times with Dojo Kamakura. And how nice to see this again! I'm proud to say that Edwin Heskes has been a very good friend of mine for more than 40 years.

so many kyokushin haters in the comments. None of you would last a minute with a properly trained kyokushin fighter on the mat or in a street fight.

Back in the early 80's I trained at Bethnal Green Kyokushin under Sensei Graham 'Noddy' Warden (think he is Shihan now). Nick would sometimes come in there and train also - nice guy and great fighter. Wonderful days - hope everyone from BG Kyokushin is well and a big shout out to Noddy!

Punches to the head being forbidden doesn’t have anything to do with minimizing injuries to the hands. Kyukiahin fighters condition their knuckles to an incredible high extent. It’s simply because the fights would be too short if they allowed punches to the head since punches are easier to land than kicks and bare knuckles as hard a kyukushin fighter’s would simply make the matches way to short due to how quickly faces would get cut up. It’s basically to make the matches linger and the sport more enjoyable to watch. It also motivates the fighters to land more kicks to the head in order to knock the opponent out, which creates an elevated level of suspense and a more enjoyable sport from a spectator perspective.

Russian athlete is more powerfull when delivering punching and kicking and he had more stamina than his opponent. We can see that from he did spinning back kick which consume lot of energy

To me KK always was an exchange of blows to see who cant take the most punishment. The no face/head contact rules, totally fucked up KK as a martial art, and spectator sport. Same problem with WTF TKD, ITF TKD much better, including MT and all KB practitioners who transition to the cage far quicker than most who come from the backward traditional rules based formats. This has nothing to do with individual brilliance or any particular technique, you're always going to get exceptional people in any mode, even the most restricted ones. Do us all a favour and drop the dumb rules and make KK an infinitely better spectator experience all round combat system in one fell swoop. Baseball bats don't hit back by themselves.

So why do they allow yellow belts to compete with black belts who are way more advanced? I love kyokushin but I feel that is a definite Hazard to the younger less-experienced belts. I understand brown belts vs. Black belts but you don't see any yellow belts going up against other under ranks. That roundhouse kick to the back of the head that yellow belt took could have been a lot worse for him.
