RIP Opportunity, but what a fantastic mission it was! Almost 20 years since this lecture. Hope we can get a sample return soon.

I always wonder WHY lectures always spend 50% of the time describing every person they worked with, what they did, where they were, how they are, yada yada yada. 🤦♀️ 😵💫 Please put such things in the reference notes. We can check if we need to.

ok. if you see yourself as an intellectual why don't you know how to generate intellect. Seems kinda shady. Honestly, you are way out of your depth. Most academics are the same. You say you are studying Buddhism but really you're just fixated with your own fixation.

And Americans are victims of tyranny in their own country, while they support it in other countries, the Jewish tyranny which systematically destroys the culture of the host nation.

Terrorism was invented by monotheism. Any order will create its opposition, namely disorder. The ultimate goal of any terrorist action chaos and anarchy. There is and old English allegory depicting the King surrounded by his own knights, each and every one bowing to him while holding a dagger behind his back, ready to strike and murder the Sire. The same truth is explained thoroughly by Sigmund Freud. Order is incorporation of time, chaos is the negation of time. Look at nature: no order, no safety, no freedom and no pity, and not even self-consciousness. There is no self in nature. 😊

Perhaps there should be a scholar piece on the leadership of US Army Chief Warrant Officers and their leadership…who generally are not in line for promotion other than Chief Warrant Officer 5s (CW5). Across the Services there are 900 Flag Officers. There might be 300 CW5s. So, who are at the top of the pyramid?

Wrong. Power is the ability to affect change, it doesn’t have to have anything to do with people. What he calls soft power is not power, it is voluntary agreement. You can get someone to agree, voluntarily, through trade or through coercion. These are methods through which power can be exercised but they can fail, and then no power is exercised.

Wonder what he would have to say about Ostbindung today, as the US seems to loose its mind and the US middle east policy is tearing Germany apart.

Notwithstanding losing his place a couple of times, Dr. Said's forcefulness and coherence is as it always was. It is hard to believe that, just 8 months later, he would be gone. He left much of himself behind but, all in all, we lost a great deal on that sad day.

Key points by Thomas Ricks: The success of American generals in World War II was largely due to a policy of "relief," where successful commanders were kept in place and promoted. In contrast, unsuccessful commanders were relieved and moved into other jobs. This policy created a culture of accountability and encouraged risk-taking among officers. The lack of such a policy in the Korean, Vietnam, and Iraq/Afghanistan wars led to a culture of mediocrity and risk aversion among American generals. Ricks attributes this to the fact that there was no real incentive for generals to excel, as they were unlikely to be punished for failure or rewarded for success. Ricks also points out that the American military has become more risk-averse in recent years due to factors such as the constant deployment of troops, the emphasis on political correctness, and the increasing complexity of military operations. He argues that this risk aversion is hindering the military's ability to adapt to new challenges and win wars. Ricks argues that the military needs to return to the policy of relief to create a more effective and successful officer corps.
