The new timing chains dont have any marks on them?What is the next plan of attack?

Colors are only there to ensure you have properly spaced the chain. You can look up how many teeth you need between each mark and color yourself.

Do you run the heater while adding the coolant back in the system?
@Chinnookcrazy352

This was helpful since I wanted to make sure the cams were timed correctly since someone else did this job for my mother and they missed the timing on main chain. Looks like they did not get into removing cams so they are still correct. Appreciate the visuals I was looking for.

Would the thermostat be more accessible if you took the air cover off? Please tell me you're using jack stands.

Yes it would be more accessible. But with me having smaller hands, it wouldn’t make much of a difference for me. And no sir! No jack stands in this video lol. Although I probably should have used them!

The coolant drain plug is only slightly more stupidly placed than the thermostat itself. I couldn't get the plug when trying by hand or needle nose pliars. Part of the plastic broke off so I gave up. What I ended up doing is using the a pot and and the plastic tray from the back of the HHR(the one that covers the spare wheel, I taped the hole, and placed it under my car as a great big catcher. I siphoned out as much coolant from the reservoiras I could. Then I went ahead with removing the thermostat cover (an arduious task in and of itself with all those cables in the way, and the darn tube tensioner screw was blocking the lower bolt, so I had to mess with loosening and rotating it out of the way. (It's an 8mm head). The bolts on the thermostat at 10mm. I removed the bolts and had to use a malet and an extension to bang the top off. Then the coolant started flowing out, but eventually stopped. I was able to replace the thermostate, and bolt the cover back on. Then I refilled the reservoir. All finished. Not a perfect flush, but if you don't mind catching the coolant overflow, you don't "have" to deal with the the drain plug. ;D

I’m sorry you had a rough time with this job! It didn’t really seem to give me a whole lot of trouble despite our lovely engineers giving us plenty of workspace lol. The drain plug on the radiator is in a tight spot due to one of the crossmembers being in the way but I’m a smaller guy and I have smaller hands so this job was pretty easy for me. Had I been a little bigger in hand size then I am afraid I may have had a struggle of my own! But thank you for this comment and thank you for watching my video!

The paint code is slate metallic! Ive had this conversation with some fellow students at college. Slate metallic for the Chevy Impala leans more on the grey side but does in fact have a tiny bit of blue.
