Lucky to have it nearby, some amazing work gone on over the year's on the canal & a real pleasure to finally take a ride through a section of it. Did not have the time to see Roy unfortunately, I had to get back and make a Sunday roast for the family (didn't want a mutiny if I was late)

The canal is a lot longer in fact; you joined it on the Grantham leg. If you headed the other way it takes you the outskirts of Nottingham, from there you ride through Cotsgrave Country Park and eventually into Nottingham where it meets the River Trent running through the city. Great video, good use of music, time flew by watching.
@TomStringer9 күн бұрын
Thanks Richard, yes selected this section from Woolsthorpe specifically this time round. The other way into Nottingham looks equally as good too.

I’ve cycled it from Drakeholes to Misterton on my mountain bike, only problem was in places the grass hadn’t been cut and was really tall , my feet got soaked, can’t comment on the rest of it for biking but a gravel bike I reckon would be ok

Ive just ditched my Karoo 2 after a couple of rides I did recently when the battery almost died after 7 hours of use and went all in for a Garmin edge 1040, not the solar version though. I was drawn by the battery life. The maps arent as good but theres always a compromise.
@TomStringer10 күн бұрын
I hear you there @briansteel4872 , Karoo maps are the gold standard but if out on an all day right with stops (not uncommon for me :) ) that battery life is going to be down to under 20% and into low power mode. How are you finding the 1040 for routing & how is your elevation data ? Sigmasports have dropped the 1040 Solar to £567 so super tempted. www.sigmasports.com/item/Garmin/Edge-1040-Solar-GPS-Cycling-Computer/Y6HT
@simonleeofficial12 күн бұрын
Gps have a barometer to improve the elevation measurements.. 5m +/- is a lot obviously. .
@TomStringer12 күн бұрын
Yes, it seems this is a 'Bug' of the Karoo 2 - I mostly use a SIM card in my K2 and according so the support forums this is a factor, along with the barometer being pretty rubbish in the K2 causing the wild under reporting of any climb's. I think this alone has made my mind up on if to get the New Karoo 3... I am going to try the Garmin 1040 Solar or 840 Solar when a deal comes my way of course.
@simonleeofficial12 күн бұрын
@@TomStringer 1040 solar sounds really nice, but it's so damn expensive..

Interesting about product sponsorship, scammers everywhere unfortunately
@TomStringer12 күн бұрын
For me I can muscle by without sponsorship on the channel as that's not what this channel is about anyway, so will continue to speak my mind and call out any AliExpress cowboys or any that come my way. The bigger the channel then I'd think would play a bigger part in the videos and what get's put forward. I do see some channels getting bigger very quick and doing the sponsored 'sell out' , but each to their own & good luck to them.

Yes i believe Norfolk is the Flattest, Lincolnshire is about 5th flattest, would love to explore Lincolnshire Wolds, but as I don't drive rely on trains looking for the nearest Premier Inn or Travellodge, bike not allowed on the Skegness line.
@TomStringer26 күн бұрын
Is that true? no bikes on Skegvegas railway line, Outrageous ! However Market Rasen Train Station does and right next to Walesby and the Wolds/ NCN Route 1. I am going to find out more about bikes on the Skeggy line. Also watch out Norfolk.. I will be testing how flat it really is later on this year.
@FENCYCLIST26 күн бұрын
@TomStringer yes when I was working in Nottingham, I wasn't allowed on the Skegness trains with my bike. Tried to get to Heckington to bike back to Peterborough from there for a change.

Incredible, EMR run that line and not seeing anything about no bikes on that line. I hope you worded a strong complaint to them! I've just messaged them on X (twitter)
@TomStringer26 күн бұрын
Reply from EMR - Hi, Tom. Cycles can be taken on our trains as long as there is room for them to be brought aboard safely. This is at the discretion of the conductor. ^DR So to me it was either full and/or a jobsworth of a conductor.

@TomStringer must have changed the rule's, because last year booking were compulsory on the Peterborough to Nottingham service, Roy and Wendy had problems when he did the Ely ride, because they didn't have a reservation, but this year reservations not needed on the EMR between Nottingham and Norwich,

@@TomStringer there was some kind of metal alloy ring in the free hub body that had broken in half and shatter into pieces knocked all 6 pulleys out of place; my mechanic couldn't identify would that was. Anyway one of the pulleys would not seat correctly, so I gave my mechanic another wheel from the same brand (Hunt) and he switched them over yesterday evening; in plenty of time for the bank holiday.

I have cycled out from Pollensa to Sa Calobra then descend and climb back up ..but I find it much more enjoyable to get the uplift to the filling station from Mallorca Cycle Shuttle..gets you up there before all the traffic starts (so no buses or cars on your climb) and its way cooler so makes the climb back all the more pleasant ..then onward for the rest of your days cycling.
