BCBS of Louisiana is required to follow ALL of the rules and mandates that are defined by the BCBS Association. Every single BCBS plan has to. The Women's Health and Cancer Rights Act of 1998 (WHCRA) is a federal law that provides protections to patients who choose to have breast reconstruction in connection with a mastectomy. Health insurance companies are REQUIRED BY A FEDERAL MANDATE to cover the cost of breast reconstruction that is due to a breast cancer diagnosis. This isn’t rocket science. And this isn’t a new mandate. The president and COO of BCBS of Louisiana should be fired. The buck stops with that person. I can’t believe this went on for ten years! This is so heartbreaking. Breast cancer is devastating and to have to deal with this BS is simply unacceptable in so many ways.
