Thanks for the video ! I would be curious to have your take on why Pokemon cards could be not as hot as they are now in the future. I passively collect sealed products as if Pokemon will always be as popular as it is today. But I sometimes wonder what would make it not as popular in the next 10 to 20 years. Everything digital, Pokemon tireness or a new thing surpassing Pokémon, making it forgotten.. cheers

As someone just getting back into and only ever collected cards before but looking at getting into sealed. Is there a cheap place to get those acrylic booster box protectors? The ones i see in my country are like 20 plus percent of the cost of a booster box. Obviously some booster boxes will be worth doing that but it also seems silly to need a 20% gain in sealed just to get back to cost

Investing aside, I want to say collect what you enjoy. You have to ask yourself why you’re in the hobby to begin with. For me, a lot of the popular sets with the main chase cards don’t interest me too much. They’re really expensive and odds of pulling those cards are pretty hard. And let’s be honest, we only have so much to budget. My focus is on sets that has Pokemon and artwork I enjoy, as well as focusing budget on modern. For older sets I buy singles of the cards I like. I think having this mentality really hones in on what you want as a goal.

My take on Paldean fates: This set is almost impossible to complete as a collection because of the number of secret rares and shiny pokemon. This makes it a good investment. The 'Shiny Hunting' content out there is intense and I expect collectors to be chasing many cards to complete the set for a long time. I've decided to invest in this set rather than collect. Just picked up a Paldean Fates ETB for $59 and a Booster Box for $45. That's a good price for an ETB in Australia. Put it away and forget about it. A small investment but I'm hoping for a reasonable return say in 10 years or so.

Id argue SV is the first "good" era since WOTC, and the most obvious chase cards from earlier modern sets are mostly due to how absolutely terrible the decade of rainbow 5ban nonsense was. Almost any SIR dropped into almost any earlier set becomes the immediate chase. Once everyones favorite pumps come along like a SIR Gengar or whatever everyone will change their tune. Everyone should imagine what a few more years of SIRs will do to mid and late-era yellow border cards. Im not sure who will still want them.

Good analysis on jpn 151. I got in at an average of $56 a box shipped back in June. Opened 2 but didn’t get great masterballs: Tangela and ponyta. Keeping the rest of my boxes sealed

great long-term potential... people dont seem to grasp the fact that 95% of people buying these cards are opening them. not storing them in the closet..

I prefer the silver borders going forward.

I think S&V era is good in a different way. The lower end cards are better than previous eras (illustration rates) but most of the chase cards are no where near as good as alt arts. Will they improve in the next sets? Hopefully? What worries me is they have fully dedicated themselves to the Terra nonesense and it just makes chase cards feel cheap. But I’m having a blast collecting psa 10 illustration rares in S&V era. An awesome chase!

SV artwork is great. Big improvement over what was already great artwork. SV is really heavy on Gen 9. If we look at IR and SIR a large percentage of these arts are Gen 9. That might be something to be careful with. Are these new Pokemon going to be popular in the future? If we look back at Gen 8 and Gen 7. You don’t see many of these new Pokemon cards holding value.

SV needs to make set size bigger and keep up the difficult pull rates. They have all the other boxes checked.

7:21 i feel the same about Sword and Shield era. I have nothing with that era and i prefer scarlet and violet over it any day. If you where not in the hype bubble of X and Y or Sword and shield you don't have anything with that era. Some say Sword and Shield era is the best ever. I say BS 1999 with base, jungle ,fossil and rocket was the greatest era ever.

If you ask me, SV>SwSh as it currently stands. Now if SV bombs the back end of the era SwSh can be better but if SV stays the path, it’s going to make SwSh look like 💩

I think Charizard 151 will turn into a big price card. I think Groudon will from PAR. I imagine the 2025 sets and the eevee set will have a few also.

Latias/Latios Tag Team alt wasnt massively expensive when it released it took a long time to get there.

A great era for sure, the most depth I have seen in Pokemon in 2 decades! Since Skyridge and company.

SV is decent but SWSH is ICONIC and the greatest era ever. It’s a hard act to follow but hopefully the second half of SV will come good because, looking objectively, it’s been a bit meh so far barring 151.

I think Twilight Masquerade changed a lot of people's views on the S&V era, including mine considering I thought twilight masquerade was gonna do poorly, yet is the best set of the era so far

I think S&V era is really nice and we have yet to see what the 2nd half has to offer but i believe its one of the better eras

Scarlet & Violet is a good era, the problem is : it followed Sword & Shield, which had phenomenal artworks, great sets and chase cards and a really big hype, and it was during COVID as well, which had a big return to the hobby of many collectors. I think the era after S&V will have more chances to shine...

Totally! They have captured the entirety of the franchise it feels like, or at least the pokemon we most remember. I believe most of the sets in the generation will be worthwhile.

Honestly, no one can predict the future. So my view is that you should collect/invest in what excites you. At least that way, if things don’t work out you’ll still have some killer packs to enjoy opening 💪
