This is not about helping the poor. This is about gaining control of the poor. Once UBI is put in place the poor will becomr dependent upon it and will vote for any party who offers to expand the program. To provide a Universal Bigger Income.

The poor are currently dependent on market or government jobs which they're increasingly less necessary to complete. You are saying emancipation from wage-slavery will somehow deepen their shackles. You couldn't be more confused sir. Would people vote for more offers to expand it? Perhaps, up unto the point where it becomes unsustainable. And the U.S. could afford something like $26,000 / year UBI for every American. If enough to escape precarity, because of diminishing marginal returns, there's not much of an incentive to keep going through the effort of voting in higher UBI's. At the same time, they'll be extra scrupulous about wasteful government spending, because each dollar wasted there could've been a dollar in their pockets.

Thank goodness my kids don't have to rely on basic income...or any income. You see I took a look around and didn't think it was a good idea to breed some temporary beings into the world to be someone's slave, suffer and die. Like my parents obviously did, sadly. Oh well, the nonsense of my genetics will die out with me. :-)

@Sven Human genetic diversity is incredibly low at about 0.1%, meaning that on average, any two humans differ in 1 out of 1000 DNA base pairs. So there's no need to worry about genetics as well. Gullible, selfish and privileged will keep breeding, bringing new sponge into the world, calling them "their kids" not understanding what's happening. It is an option for a thinking human. But I dare say there's space for unprecedented type of optimism, if nothing else as entertainment. Next few decades will bring most drastic changes in how we live, communicate and think about the world. Sometimes centuries pass and nothing changes, sometimes days pass and centuries happen. We are living in the most exciting and transformative time and I agree, there's no need for individuals to keep doing what we were doing since proteins assembled in primordial ocean.

Vitally important questions for basic dignity & respect. AI will decimate job opportunities not just truckers but also oncologists as machines largely replace them through efficiencies. Wake up! Discuss! Build a future rather than becoming a statistical victim.

I hope this will be a powerful message to Roma and all children that education is the key to better life choices for them. I appreciate not all children have the capacity to learn in the same way and other solutions, such as vocational training must be given as an option. A more individual approach to teaching will help, and supporting parents more. Well done to these children for their achievements
