wow - out to Port Mulgrave and down to Goldsborough and back all in one day. Really impressive! On our trip to your shores this summer we just did one of those legs per day. I'm surprised the tides worked out.
@fossiliferous3 күн бұрын
If there had been more to find on the way to goldy I might not have gone quite so far
@debivort3 күн бұрын
@@fossiliferous Still, I would have thought the tides would make it impossible. Can you do Runswick to Port Mulgrave on a relatively high tide?
@fossiliferous3 күн бұрын
@debivort normally no. And I was expecting to only get as far as the cut off point at the second bay. This wasn't such a big tide though and with there being little swell I managed to dodge across it to do the rest of port quite early. Plus I'm probably faster than average getting over the rocks
@debivort2 күн бұрын
@@fossiliferous Thanks, that makes sense! Impressive adventure :D

Can you get down at kettleness or goldsbough or do you have to walk from runswick :)

So typical of UK north sea shore line, I thought it was north Northumberland or Berwickshire.

Great video mate, learnt even more! Just trying to get my eye in trying to figure out grey shale from jet rock. It's all just shades of gray to me which doesn't help!
@fossiliferous5 күн бұрын
You can tell by the nodules and the ammonite species. To just look at the shales is quite hard to distinguish although they are different and jet rock often has an oily petroleum smell

You should really try Waterloo bay in northern Ireland it's got interesting fossils and interesting history especially if you read up on it there are some brilliant things there

Yes it looks similar to sommerset and penarth - one day i'll definitely call in. I might have to trip up to skye first though

Nice one. I think you had it bad on the west coast! At least i managed to get out this weekend. Hoping it's dislodged some fossils but unfortunately I'm not able to get out now till 20th

@fossiliferous well... I may be forced into a teepee hot tent trip before xmas or early January.. Did the end of November last year 60mph winds, and April this year was miles warmer, even better was July's run. .. they say no pain no gain... Very true on the coast
@fossiliferous21 күн бұрын
It been a weird weather year again. Hopefully we get some rain to bring out the fossils
@scoutingforkeels21 күн бұрын
The weather was terribly but the company made up for it. That’s as bad, sand wise, as I’ve ever seen the Holderness and we still managed a few things so totally worth it! Took me hours to dry off though!!
