Hi there. I was skipper of the Beaver for her first couple of years. Fantastic to see her in such good shape. Brett's were a great company and obviously have a good maintenance programme. Still a few years yet by the look of her.

Good day Sir! I'm a new crew in Royal Wagenborg (Manila based), I will be boarding Tiberborg soon. My sea experience was Roro and Bulk carrier ships, I hope that I can adjust on General cargo ships. Nice video by the way!

Every few weeks such a ship passes the bridges of Groningen with only a few centimetres to spare on her voyage from the yard to the sea.

Bosuns Chair😂😂 what a laugh the lads used to have using them. Even the girls in Aussie & Kiwi went on the stage and painted the ship 😂😂

The water is for wetting down the anchor chain. For keeping the rust dust down.

I worked on tankers, when near or in a port the deck fire main has to be kept pressurized but to prevent damage to the fire pump some water has to be spilled this is usually via the anchor chain wash in the hawse pipe

Hi there American merchant sailor the water shooting out of the hawsepipe is salt water and really useful for knocking mud off and other debris. As for reasons it’s left on it could be anything from they forgot to testing fire main pump to using an educator to remove water from the chain locker or even removing some ballast (less likely on that) also she is stunningly well taken care of .
@LGCIO11 ай бұрын
Wow thanks Ben! Love the info.

The waterflow from the hawse pipe is an anchor wash that's been left switched on.
@LGCIO11 ай бұрын
Great info, thanks! Fresh water I presume? Otherwise it's probs a pointless wash 😀
@pilotiain845011 ай бұрын
@LGCIO normally seawater as the main aim is to rinse off mud that has accumulated on the chain and anchor while it was lying on the seabed otherwise the chain locker ends up full of crud and needs to be dug out by hand.
@LGCIO11 ай бұрын
@@pilotiain8450 Bet that's a nasty job when the chain is pulling up seabed!
@pilotiain845011 ай бұрын
@LGCIO yeah it can get a bit messy if the chain has been lying in a muddy seabed! Smells awful too when it starts to dry out 🤣

@LGCIO11 ай бұрын
Hey it’s likely you may have an anchor spot nearby, it’s common to see vessels of this size anchor up regularly for over night stops, in some case a couple of days at a time, ships can even anchor close to land during predicted storms and bad weather! Hope that helps 🚢😁
