The list is based only on something that is easy to check and trustworthy - how much is worth their stock portfolio . And yes - it still can be invested with a loan , but the richest people have most of their assets in stocks and you can easily check what goes up or down and get to know if a person is now richer or poorer . I know one guy who is one of the richest in Poland . The day before he got on stock exchange he had only 10k Polish Zlotys . The day after he became a billionaire but then he had to invest everything again to have a power in his company . Now he says that he still doesn't feel that he is rich because he can't sell everything - because that would be too risky for the other shareholders . He works way too much and he feels like he is a prisoner in his own company .
