I agree. The high-contrast model shot with the yellow lighting is my second favourite in the show. First being the static slow zoom shot on tape of course, as I imagine most would agree. I swear the scene where Avon finds the jewellery was in the VHS. That's what I grew up watching. Maybe I've mentally rewritten that version though. As for the guards falling over in the reactor explosion, my morbid theory is that they're killed by the radiation burst before the actual kinetic explosion kicks off.

Thanks for putting this up, I have the edited vhs but never got around to sitting down and comparing with the re-release or dvd. I watched the edited version when the dvd came out but by the time I got around to sticking the disc on (and having a few wines) I’d forgotten what was snipped. I expect we’ll see this version on the eventual blu-ray release.

From memory, I think this original release was the first to be available for £9.99. Prior to that, "Doctor Who" releases were priced at £25.

This was the very first commercial VHS of "Doctor Who" I ever bought, back in 1985 for the princely sum of £25! I still remember the magical feeling of being able to watch a vintage "Doctor Who" story, whenever I wanted to. It's hard to comprehend that now, but it was very, very special back in the day. It has to be remembered but (as with all TV output back then) these productions were a "one off" and were never intended to be even repeated, let alone released for on-demand viewing. Huge credit to everyone involved for the sheer amount of work involved in making viewing so good that it still stands up to this day.

Wow, there are more editing differences than I'd realised. But for me the one that jumped out when I watched the Blu Ray was the Triffid gun sequence, no blade effect leaving the gun and a totally different shot of the Triffid where you don't actually see the 'slice'. This was a really shoddy job

I love The Pyramids of Mars and I love Sarah Jane Smith (R.I.P. Elisabeth Sladen), yet although I can see why it was chosen as the third release, I am surprised nobody mentioned/mentions the bit about alternative time, apart from the little bit of U.N.I.T dating controversy but it must've been the first time we saw The TARDIS land back in the same place and the same time, I think it only happened once before, but even then it was not exactly like this, (In The Ark, the old girl leaves and then pops ahead a few years but still arrived in the jungle part of the ship), I don't think in Classic Who of any other instance before, but then it occurred in The Invisible Enemy, but it was treated like a joke, but oddly enough, it also happened in City of Death and Shada as well. (Bet someone will do a video about it now) 😉
