Making a playlist for a four-year-old genius (!) was the excuse for choosing this magical performance from among dozens of others going back to Zofia Rabcewicz (look for her on KZbin) through Godowsky, several by Rubinstein and finally Yuja Wang. They’re all marvelous but with Khatia we have a story, at least to my ears. Without going into the kind of detail Bulow and Cortot might have written, it involves a young girl at her first ball. Very Specter of the Rose, and Khatia looks like a red rose. But no preening, no posing , just the most delicate poetry. Hope to hear my little one play this waltz one day - in her own way. Meantime thanks for sharing.

Perhaps it’s only my impression but to seems that at the beginning he just neceser to get used to the piano on which he didn’t have an opportunity to practice before the concert. The ending was much better than the beginning. The master’s remarks how to play a polonaise - priceless.

I come back here at least once a year to watch her hands dance. The finish beginning at 2:41 causes me to question if she might be a hidden extraterrestrial amongst us . Her speed and accuracy is mind blowing especially considering the assumption that her hands are probably on the smaller side to be slaying all those chords like it's nothing! Impressive would be an insulting description for this performance. Yuja is a natural treasure and I hope to see her live in concert some day. What a beautiful, unbelievable talent. :)
