The reason why Vis is controlling.. is because 91.175?
@LauraLaster7479 күн бұрын
Visibility is controlling under 91.175(f) for operations under 121 and 135 (and other parts). However, many of these operators also have Operations Specifications (ops specs) that allow for "lower than standard" takeoff minimums. I explain that a lot more in another video on Part 121 Takeoff Minimums. In this example, the flight could take off but under 91.175(d)(2) it could not return to land in the event of an urgent need to return.

What if you have been diagnosed with anxiety/depression in the past? I’m hoping to start flight training, but somewhat worried about passing the 1st class medical. I’ve been diagnosed with both, sought counseling, and I’m not taking medication or talking with a therapist.
@LauraLaster7479 күн бұрын
Thank you for watching, and the answer is not one I can easily give. I would suggest first making an appointment with an AME but not for the FAA Medical. You could talk with the AME directly about your own situation and the past medical history. They can give more guidance on how to report your history. The other resource I can recommend is AOPA's medical team. I have a few other videos you might find helpful, one in particular where a student thought he had been diagnosed with depression, but it turned out he had not. He still got his medical by following instructions sent by the FAA but that was after he reported a depression diagnosis in the past. I hope this is helpful.

Hi there, good Day! Don't mind me adding; on 121 ops, If the dispatch has creditable weather forecasting n dispatchers are all trained in RIF ,you may reduce contingency to 5% subject to FAA. The RIFPT is 89% of the total trip time/distance..I don't think it's 2 hours.as lady Laura said. Too soon. Unless there is no suitable airport in-between. At80% trip, if Fuel remain is equal or more than the RIF to destination, flight will continue n cancel redispatch. You then land n top up the difference to destination, bearing in mind the flight might be restricted by MLDW. N new dispatch n load sheet to recalculate. Sorry for being direct,but I think Laura is bit confused on the reclearace point calcu. RIF is judicious way of reducing trip fuel by the difference of contingency fuel. I just flew a RIF ETOPS flight to Singapore and due Cyclone at KHH, reroute is long way towards Jomalig n curve down to M'sia. 16hrs nonstop but headwinds of 70kte plus n reroute adds up 2hrs extra . Our RIF is Saigon. Fly safe.
@LauraLaster7479 күн бұрын
Hello, thanks for the feedback. I have to admit ignorance on what is RIF? (Re release fuel?) And what is RIFPT? I assume the best location for re-release point? I have also been told it's best to do at 89% which I thought was said in the interview, but maybe it wasn't said clearly.

Hi there. From the get-go, informing the Capt regarding the MEL and the APU being out--I have a friend who's a United 737 Captain, and he had told me one time that union rules/negotiations allow them to say no-go to a APU being out. In your experience, would that be a common response from most major airline Captains, to say no to a flight when the APU is on the MEL?
@LauraLaster7479 күн бұрын
Hello! I would say it really depends on the airline. Where I worked (121 supplemental carrier with aging MD88s) we sometimes were either going with APU out or the whole operation was not going. We did not have a lot of maintenance support. If the dispatcher verifies there are starting power units downline, it can be done. But, I don't have information on specific work rules or union rules about specific MELs. It would be a company-specific thing. Thank you for watching! Great feedback!

Hello! I did the ADX before and that’s the way to go. I would have had zero time to get that done after arriving for the 2 week intensive course. Have you been using Sheppard Air? The hardest part was just the firehouse of the flight planning steps and then having homework and study every night!

I got deferred on my first class medical because of a aneurysm in my brain. I had a surgery when I was 14 years old. Now I am 24 and this happened I don’t know what to do. In addition to that it has been 6 months plus and I still haven’t received any letter form the faa about it. I’m just waiting and mowing nothing. I gathered all imaging from an mri and an angiogram I did. All came out good. But I don’t know if I should send it or where to send it. I’m lost here if anyone can better help me with my situation?
@LauraLaster74723 күн бұрын
I am so sorry you're going through this. How frustrating! I would suggest continuing to call or communicate with the FAA. The other suggestion I have is speaking with AOPA's pilot medical help team or speaking with a service like Wingman Med wingmanmed.com/ (I have not used their services, but I do hear good things about AOPA's team from students who have used them in the past.) The FAA is supposed to tell you where to send your documentation, but if they have not, reach out to them and continue to do so until they answer your questions. I have been told to reach out to your Regional Flight Surgeon for more direct help with inquiries: www.faa.gov/pilots/medical_certification/rfs for the contact information.

Good info thanks. I was also wondering about the job placement afterwards. Are there specific ways to get a better chance at landing a job? How was your time finding a job after graduating?
@LauraLaster7479 күн бұрын
@@Cooper-od5xp I was fortunate in that I was attending the program paid for by my employer, so I was not looking for a job after graduation. One good way to try to get a job at a larger company is to be willing to work in some other entry-level role (flight attendant, gate agent, ramp loader, customer service, etc.) and then try to transfer internally when they open a new hiring bid for dispatchers. I have had numerous students do that with good success!

Hey, not sure of exactly what all you're asking. I would recommend talking with an FAA AME to ask the question about specifics, because that's not me. Very sorry I can't answer all these. Of course there is an element of reliance on the applicant to tell the truth on the application form, and keep in mind if the FAA finds out you have not told the truth on the application form, there are serious consequences. wingmanmed.com/lying-on-faa-medical/ article you might like to review
