Competition makes for better things. They should make Scrabble tougher, more competitive... even call it Hardscrabble.

To be fair, some cooperative games can be absolutely _brutal._ Last time I played one, we came exactly one turn (for one player, not a whole round of the board) from getting out of the dungeon alive...

The hilarious thing is: Gen Z and Y in other countries aren't like that. Here in Europe they're normal. It's just the dumpster fire that is the USA which is doomed.

Frankly disagree with a bit of this. I specifically want to note that you said competition drives progress, then said you were against bailing out failing companies. In capitalism, when a company successfully beats all the competition, it becomes a monopoly. No longer opposed by another company's innovation, their focus shifts from progress to cutting corners and hiking prices. This stalls innovation, but at this point the company is all you know. Why stop shelling out money? Capitalism does thrive on competition, but when one company "wins", the game is over, and progress halts. Love the comedy as always, but I don't think the DOOM of America is an optional mode in Scrabble.

As a super competitive person myself, I love crushing people at Scrabble. As a linguist, however, I like the idea of an activity (a cooperative game) designed to play with words with other people.

It was cooperation, not competition, that was responsible for tha founding of this country. That's the key to a great democracy.

America is not a democracy. The founders hated democracies, with good reason.

I'm gonna sound like an old guy at freaking 38 but, Being an "Expert" at something means that you have studied it extensively & are qualified to speak on said subject. If not, it's called; being an "idiot" or "talking out of one's ass." I weep for a portion of this current generation, for they are idiots.

Every generation has it's fair share of idiots. This generation is no better or worse than any other, just different.

As Cas from Clutterbug says.. if everything is important - nothing is important. This is applied to decluttering but also so so many other areas of life like this 🤍 I get both sides - OR at least understand it but is it overcompensating to try to overcome the generational stuff? I've directly heard from people now in their 90s who were old enough to remember The Great Depression first hand that they absolutely regretted no letting their children fail to some degree - which would be people now in their 60s-70s.. Yep, I made this serious 😬🤷♀️ oopsy

Interesting yall picked scrabble to bitch about anti competition, but your government just raised tariffs to 100 percent on chinese electric cars cause your companies can't compete...they want you to buy electric, they pay $7500 plus state subsidies so you buy electric but they don't want you to buy superior, cheaper electric cars...

My wife and I decided to play Scrabble a little differently (not because of competition) we play down till we use every single letter then in a couple of minutes use every word to make a short story with a plot and usually a twisted ending. Trying to use as little of other words as possible. (Scrabble Stories) are creative and funny. The one with the best story wins. We now have a book of them to read and laugh at later. Hey I should be marketing this not giving it away for free😂
