Assuming you play SNES Ghost Valley 2 (takes around 20 seconds per lap on average for a 1 minute race) 5,100 times, it will take 212 days and 12 hours to unlock everything using this time consuming method.

You're math is wrong you forgot to divide by 60 you are dividing minutes by hours it'd take 85 hours

unlock it by unlocking fast staff ghosts on every course i'ts much easier this is just a method you can us that not many people know aobut it cuse the numbrs to get them are pretty unrealistic

I’m kind of surprised they even have this way of unlocking because players would almost always just be able to complete one of the ways to unlock before even playing the game x amount of times. I myself didn’t even know you can unlock things like that. I only knew about the 50 races after creating a Super Mario Galaxy file, getting star ranks in Grand Prix, and beating the time trial ghosts

It wasn't clickbait. the fact you can unlock mirror mode through playing 4.8k total battles/races is very very suprising. weirldy enough you can't unlock the cups that way.
