I don get the use of Styrofoam. What ever You do, it is extremely prone for delaminating. Have tested various methods, but it will always fail. Not that the skin will separate from the core, but checking carefully, the xps core will separate from itself.

This is spectacular. I'd not seen the adaptive ones, just the flapping drones. I could see a version of this in use for small aircraft, possibly delivery or 1-2 person skycabs.

As long as the tow plane did not let them go at 75,999' up, this is amazing!. My grandpa (Bill Putnam) competed in a glider competition in 1940? and the altitude prize was 14,400' by Lyle Maxey of Detroit. John Robinson of San Diego won the meet and was given the Edward S. Evans trophy and $1,500 in prize money. My grandpa did come in second place! It was a National Competition in July in Elmira, New York. At the time, the military was considering using gliders to transport troops and light weaponry. There was an interesting mention of the Germans invading Crete with gliders.

How is it making jet noise although the engine is off🤔🤔
@bigguy4u989
@bigguy4u989 17 күн бұрын
jet noise just the sound of air moving. anything moving quickly through the atmosphere will make noise, like cars, golf clubs, etc. the space shuttle is a massive object and it lands at a much higher speed than an airliner, that’s why it makes so much noise even though there are no jet engines

Wait wait- is this the same Orion that flew on Artemis 1?
@MechDesignTV
@MechDesignTV Ай бұрын
If you mean the same type, yes, otherwise the answer is no. This was a prototype capsule (Orion CM-001), the one that flew with Artemis I was another capsule (CM-002) that had all the necessary systems for a crewed spaceflight.

Aside the jokes about the so called ugliness, people don't realize how innovative and smart the X-32 design was. The lifting body with a main upper wing carrying the whole fuselage etc, was a real good technical point to simplify the process of producing and maintaining the whole machine. Unfortunately nobody would have been ready to pay billions for such a bad looking program.

So, did Euopa Clipper just now extend the Boom, or is this just someone fishing for youtube points?
@MechDesignTV

It was extended (successfully) a while ago and it will remain extended. This video just shows the animation of how the boom extends, nothing more, nothing less. If you think there's something misleading in the title or the video (which is unedited..) please let us know

@@MechDesignTV well obvious tip: after deployment for test, when go to restow it, DO NOT turn the measuring-tape-like deployment restraint the wrong direction or you may find yourself hanging from the deployment fixture for a week while you repair it And if you have the thermal blanket “sock” you will not be able to inspect the boom prior to restow

Firebird could be either autonomous or piloted by a human. It can be broken down into 3 crates and reassembled in less than hours. I wrote the flight test and was a first flight witness.
