how much do you think one book would cost nowadays? I cant find any online
@BookelMen14 күн бұрын
@@arijitxd i think currently the average is about $180 for the english edition unfortunately. the japanese is much cheaper. you can try ebay, i just searched for "ni no kuni book english" and got a couple results

Hello! Your book presentation is outstanding! I like this edition and would like to purchase it, so i'm wondering what's the quality of paper in this edition and is it on par with present folio society books?
@BookelMen20 күн бұрын
@@springsplinter i would say so, folio society paper varies depending on the book and time of release, but i'm pleased with the quality here, it's fairly thick, relatively smooth, and of course there is no yellowing or anything. i'm no expert though :)

So the newer editions don't have all the art? That's so stupid! Also, there definitely should have been a Hobbit edition illustrated by Pauline Baynes, those small pictures of past events are already gorgeous
@BookelMen2 ай бұрын
yep unfortunately the newer pocket edition, i guess had to compromise due to the more limited page space. and yeah there is a criminally low number of differently illustrated Tolkien books in general, the re-releases are always the usual suspects! though we're lucky to have as much of Pauline's work as we already have :)

Do you know if there are any differences (particularly in terms of size) between the HarperCollins and William Morrow editions?
@BookelMen2 ай бұрын
for once they do seem to be the same size! i don't have the WM one, but there is a helpful post in the Collected Poems thread on the Tolkien Collector's Guide forum (should be page 18 of the thread), though there are some inconsistencies with the width of the slipcase

Thank you so much for doing this! It's a super helpful and indeed a fantastic guide to the publication history of one of my favorite books, The Once and Future King! I just wanted to ask you, perhaps I missed it if you mentioned in the video, but is The Book of Merlyn included in the Folio Society edition of The Once and Future King? Thanks in advance! 😀
@BookelMen6 ай бұрын
Thank you, that means a lot! 🙂And no, it's not included (other than the couple chapters from Book of Merlyn that were put in the Sword in the Stone that i mention at 9:10). The publication history is pretty strange and messy, so it's hard to find that info, but I'm not aware of any edition that combines the two.
@philtheo6 ай бұрын
@@BookelMenThanks again for letting me know! 😊 I still love the Folio Society edition you have even without Merlyn. It's such a beautiful edition. I looked on the Folio Society website but I couldn't find it. I guess it's no longer published! Very sad. I would love to buy it, maybe Folio Society will consider reprinting it someday. Thanks again for your super helpful video! 😊
@BookelMen6 ай бұрын
@@philtheo Yep, it's not available any more, I got mine second-hand, so maybe you could try ebay or something similar. Don't imagine they will reprint this particular edition, but maybe they'll come up with a new one, with a new design and illustrations, that might be nice. who knows!

I had no idea ni no kuni was meant to be played with a physical companion book, that makes the game so much more interesting to me immediately
@BookelMen7 ай бұрын
yeah, well the DS version at least. you had to use your stylus to draw spells you find in the book, and there were some riddles you could solve using it i think, very cool and unique. and then for the ps3 version it made probably the coolest collector's edition i've seen, they're usually so boring and pointless
@scanerang3 ай бұрын
From my experience it is not necessary. In most cases it is actually easier and faster to use the in game book compared to physical book. The physical book is cool for vibes, but at some point I gave up using it, even when it sat beside me ready to use
