Thanks for the video. I had the same problem with my BMW N20. The main issue is that when you go to the garage they plug in the diagnostic hardware and start testing and guessing what is up. After replacing tons of unnecessary parts in your vehicle you end up with high bills and the still existing problem in your engine. Knowledge is the key.

I just bought a 2014 crv with 120k miles. It makes the rattling noise on startup (even after sitting for only 1 hour) and the dealership says it's a bad vtc actuator and stretched timing chain and quoted me $2700 for replacement of the timing set. The car runs with no problems and no check engine lights. Do you think I can wait for a check engine light or is it urgent to fix it right away?
@MyHomeGarage19 күн бұрын
I think it’s pretty urgent. I Donno how many people have actually had a chain break on one but I wouldn’t want to find out.
@aliseyedi1618 күн бұрын
@@MyHomeGarage Thanks. But as the only symptom is the rattling noise, isn't it possible that the dealership wants the complete replacement only to make extra profit? What if the problem is only the VTC actuator?
@MyHomeGarage18 күн бұрын
@aliseyedi16 i checked everything on mine it was on its 2nd actuator. And I can confirm the chain was sretched
@MyHomeGarage18 күн бұрын
I believe that lack of oil changes. Poor oil quality. Short trips. Cause premature wear on the vtc actuator. But when it rattle’s even when not cold the entire system should be checked including those filters that I addressed on my video aswell as checking the the vtc oil solenoid. So there are variables. Note I was a licensed technician at Honda during the start of these vtc issues. I’ve spoken to the engineers and scene vtc revisions and the issues would come back. I can say that on this vehicle because it’s in my family has not had the rattle return and years ago when o only replaced vtc. Rattle returned within 7-8 months.
@Happyboymargarine13 күн бұрын
I saw the same rattle. On a vid. Was not the vtc. It was the belt tensioner

We’ll the 2009 is previous generation. The communication and wiring is completely different. If you supplied me a wiring diagram I could tell you everything you need to know. But a hood place to start would be wiggling that harness between the vehicle and the door. Broken wires are very common.

do you have to leave the car on and attached to ISTA in the service mode? Or can you enter the oil change service mode then exit ISTA and turn-off the car and do the oil change? When I tried to change the oil, I entered service mode in ISTA and it said the chamber was open, but when I went to change the oil it seemed like it was still closed since I was only able to extract 500ml of fluid.

Important for everyone!!! ALWAYS TORQUE RUBBER BUSHINGS AT RIDE HEIGHT!!!! The work by being clamped in a neutral position that they want to return to, therefore pulling/pushing on the suspension and not pushing and pulling when the car is sitting still. If you torque them in a random position and let the car sit on them they are under extreme constant stress and WILL rip within a month and you can do it all again.
