Hi Michelle! Regarding what you said about learning songs that you love I think that it works for begginers but not so much for intermediate players that want to matser their skills. I realized that if I just learn the songs that I like ( example: pop songs) it makes it harder for me to develope new techniques apart from the ones that I already feel I am "good at". I think sometimes you need to swallow the bitter pill and trust the fact that it will bring long term benefits.
@GuitarGoddess20 сағат бұрын
Hey, Sara! ☺️I agree with what you’re saying, but I think it’s a case by case basis and depends on the type of music each individual likes. For example, if a beginner wants to learn some Foo Fighters riffs, that would be more of a challenging start than learning your most basic pop songs that are usually 4 chords and a strumming pattern. Learning songs you love can also mean learning challenging things! I think a lot of people don’t always learn the songs they truly love because they might seem to intimidating. Just another perspective from experience. 🫶🏼✨

Love your videos and your program Shell as theyve both helped me learn guitar! Great tips... useful for when motivation gets a bit low 😊! My suggestion is also not to beat yourself up if you've neglected your guitar... picking it back up only takes a moment and bite sized sessions work wonders!

Dad got me a guitar in 2005 and i’ve been on and off with it…had i stayed consistent the songs i would’ve played and techniques i would’ve had would be priceless. I haven’t picked up my guitar for a loooong time. I get overwhelmed with so much information on the internet that i lose interest really quick. I’m gonna follow your suggestion and go from there.
@GuitarGoddess4 күн бұрын
It’s never too late to pick it back up. I agree - there is a loooot of information on the internet that can make things feel overwhelming. The main key is to know how to break down and practice songs. Once you have those basic fundamentals down, you can learn anything on guitar! 🫶🏼✨

OMG! This will work fine for me. When I've run into B major or B minor, it seems that the song only requires a few beats and then it's on to the next chord. So this will work fine for me. There is no way my hand will ever be able to do a full B major barre chord. So this video is extremely helpful. I'm going to check out the C major video next.

To mute the A string, use your finger on the 6th string to lay over to mute the 5th string! ✨

This may sound cliche but I’ve picked some sophisticated songs like “sweet home Alabama” (cringe I know) but to play note for note, solos included, on tempo is hard. Another one is Black Betty which has a really long and fast solo. I learned songs like Roadhouse Blues pretty early on- note for note. A lot easier than some. Another fun thing to do is to take an old worn out song, like say Roadhouse Blues and add a second solo. The first solo is pretty basic, just a chuck berry thing, but added a second more melodic solo that runs maybe 16 bars. Zeppelin songs are pretty easy since the rhythm parts are very simple and in most of their songs the solos are just quick bursts…maybe 4-6 bars max. I remember growing up I thought the “whole lotta love” solo was the pinnacle of virtuosity. Took me all of 45 min to learn it and another 400 or so passes to play well. Stairway to Heaven an exception. Why learn these cringy Guitar Center taboo songs? Because they are iconic. There is something about them, love or hate them, that has stood the tests of time. Speaking of which, learn some Bach- even if you can never play them perfectly. I would suggest some of the cello suites or the well tempered clavier. Some of the most iconic rock based songs are Bach ripoffs.

You don’t have to cover each string - just the 5th and 1st strings. You’re hovering over the rest of them. If you need extra help with barre chords, feel free to check out my course ✨Barre Chord Breakthrough✨
