Dying Swan has nothing to do with Swan Lake, it's a short, detached ballet to music of St Saens, not Tchaikovsky

Many many thanks to Victor Jesson for his dedicated work over ten years to bring this wonderful archive footage. I am in my late seventies now and worked in entertainment since the age of six. I have constantly pleaded to record some of the amazing productions, but was told no for legal poppycock. So much is lost for future generations. This footage shows many of the artistes from my personal collection of the Ballet Russe in the heyday. Many worked on into their Autumn years and it kept them very contented with life. My favourite part of this piece is the waltz sequence danced by Franklin and Danilova. Their bodies melt into such unison and harmony to the music. So delightful to turn back the years and see such artistry from the entire company. Once again well done Mr Jesson. Thanks for the memories.

After having seen A. Danilova as a Grande Dame (and teacher) in “The Turning Point”, how marvelous to see her in youthful form and an accurate presentation of the genuine theatrical version, not some gussied up Hollywood presentation. This is authentic and what theater audiences experienced.

Fun fact: Toumanova was an occasional feature in pictures, but she was no stranger to newer media. As early as 1933, when one of de Basil's 'baby ballerinas', she was in the visiting company that performed on the BBC's low-definition experimental television service, in a relay from London's Alhambra Theater. Other Ballet Russe members in the show included David Lichine- and Leonide Massine, who would return with her to the BBC in 'Spanish Fiesta' 47 years later!

What an incredible, gorgeous pair. Tamara was such beautiful actress but mostly ballerina originally from Republic of Georgia and her real name was Tumaniashvili. She was incredible ballerina and there are some clips on you Tube where she danced with Massine and maybe Lifar in Ballet Russe. I always admired her beauty

By birth, her name was Tamara Vladimirovna Khassidovitch. She was not born in the Georgian Republic. In an interview, she said that she was born on a train traveling between the cities of Ekaterinburg and Tyumen, in Russia, and also wrote that the train was going to Shanghai (China). In general - questions. And Tumanishvilli is her mother's maiden name. But anyway, Tamara was really a very beautiful woman and a talented ballerina.

@@esmeephillips5888 The company bus i used to tour with back in the 80's was blue with smoke driving back home after a show. And there were plenty of drinks going around too. Nowadays dancers sort of have an image to protect. Back then a lot went under the radar.
