John 3:5 "Jesus answered, 'I tell you the truth, unless a man is born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God'" Romans 6:3-5 3 Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. 5 For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his. Galatians 3:27 - For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. Acts 2:38 - And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. And if Jesus speaking in John wasn't enough here is the great commissioning. Matthew 28:19 - Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit Christ said to do it, that it is necessary. Paul said we are buried with Him in baptism so that we, as He did, may live life anew. And that if united to Him like this we may be united to Him in a resurrection like His. Peter said baptism is both for forgiveness of sins and to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, and that baptism saves you. 1 Peter 3:20-21 20 who were formerly disobedient, when the patience of God waited in the days of Noah, while[a] an ark was being constructed, in which a few-that is, eight souls-were rescued through water. 21 And[b] also, corresponding to this, baptism now saves you, not the removal of dirt from the flesh, but an appeal to God for a good conscience through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, Get baptized. The Holy Scripture never says it's about obedience, or simply some sign. Plus right before you read one baptism you said "Holy Spirit baptism, then immediately after water baptism, and church membership".. How many baptisms is that?

If we are commanded by God to do something should we obey? Or is it not about obedience at all?

@mastersbiblechurch It's about accurately dividing the scriptures. None of the scriptures referenced indicate water baptism, just baptism. There are three definitions to baptism... to dip repeatedly, to immerse, to submerge (of vessels sunk) to cleanse by dipping or submerging, to wash, to make clean with water, to wash one's self, bathe to overwhelm Only one has a portion of the definition that pertains to water. The word baptism IS NOT synonymous with water. Let's take a look at Matt 28:19. If the application is for water baptism and uf a command, the onus is on the disciple to DO the baptizing and NOT on the new believer to be baptized. The disciple is the one disobeying by not baptizing because the command is to the disciple, not the new convert. Baptism happens when one believes, the Holy Spirit baptizes in the blood of Christ and places them in the body. Dunking someone in water accomplishes absolutely nothing. John baptized with water for the repentance of sins (accomplished something). The Holy Spirit baptizes us in the Blood of Christ and accomplishes salvation. What does water baptism accomplish?

Where is the term joyful obedience found in scripture with regard to either water baptism or local church membership? John baptized with water for repentance, but Jesus will baptize with the Holy Spirit and fire. Paul said there is one baptism (Eph 4). Paul later said in 1 Cor 1:17 that water baptism is NOT part of the Gospel. No mention anywhere is made of local church membership. This guy is just trying to control

Great sermon! Question though. Around the 42 minute mark, if the nation repented and began to follow after God why were they not saved? Isn't that the definition of being saved? To repent of your sins and follow after God?

Great question! Faith in Christ is necessary for having eternal life. One thing we need to also be careful of is when we see the word “salvation” in the Bible it doesn’t always mean salvation from the penalty of sin and imputation of the righteousness of Christ. Sometimes it means salvation from a situation. Regarding repentance, the book of Judges gives great examples of national repentance without what we would consider as New Testament salvation. Does that help as a starting point?
@matthewrease2376

I think Jonah 3:4-10 is an example of national repentance which did not result in the people being saved.

Therefore if there is any encouragement in Christ, if there is any consolation of love, if there is any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and compassion, fulfill my joy, that you think the same way, by maintaining the same love, being united in spirit, thinking on one purpose, doing nothing from selfish ambition or vain glory, but with humility of mind regarding one another as more important than yourselves, not merely looking out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.

Check this quote out brothers "Free-will tears the reins of government out of the hands of God, and robs Him of His power. It places the creatures beyond His absolute control and in some respects gives them veto power over His eternal will and purpose. It even makes it possible that angels and saints in heaven might sin, that there might again be a general rebellion in heaven such as is supposed to have occurred when Satan and the fallen angels were cast out, and that evil might become dominant or universal."

You do realize his name was not Jesus. That was a name given to him during translation which changed the Bible. Its so ironic you use the wrong name. If you preach not changing the bible you must be able to read the ancient languages it was originally written in becuase as we know with any language translation changes the subtext, connotation, and often times literal meanings of things.
