I love the way Jerry Lee and Keith work instrumentally against each other, each blasting loose when the time is right. Keith obviously loves playing with Jerry Lee and vice versa. Mick Fleetwood casually anchors the rock and roll, no sweat.

Does this work with UA Luna and Davinci Resolve Fairlight? And being that someone mentioned chopping samples, I would love for this to work with Native Instruments Maschine/Serato Sample. Thanks, and dope review. Please update us about how it's been working with your workflow and everything. Peace and salute.
@DeliciousMauritious
@DeliciousMauritious 7 ай бұрын
Thank you - it works with Luna and also Resolve Fairlight as they both support Mackie Control Protocol. I have not tested it with Fairlight though, but I did test a bit in Luna (I wanted to see it the track color would show on the display, it does not). I have a couple other videos about the mapping of MCU functions in Cubase, I am also working on one about customizing buttons and sending MIDI with the buttons. It does work well but customizing it takes time and also the setup is quite complicated (a mix of iMap software, BOME translator, MIDI Remote, Generic Remote). Just the combination of "Fader Groups" and "Show Connected Channels" is a great workflow enhancer. I use it to filter the mixer view to just my 8 main group tracks, select say the drum bus, and then dive into all channels connected to that one (ie the drums channels). This is really cool. It can be done on most MCU devices I reckon.

Thanks, @DeliciousMauritious. I appreciate it. Can you manipulate plugs, tweak EQs and parameters, and such? I was thinking of getting the Tascam Model 12 but I may rock with this instead.
@DeliciousMauritious
@DeliciousMauritious 7 ай бұрын
@@phanatiksent yes, I find it pretty usable for EQ / sends / plug-in management in Cubase - but I did have to customize parameters arrangement for each plugin within Cubase to make it more efficient. The optional display is really good for that. Much better than my old HUI, and a very small footprint. The Tascam Model 12 will give you a digital mixer and recorder but probably not as efficient as a control surface in my opinion.

Does the D4 T meterbridge display channel output level meters like the coloured LED’s on the P1 M surface?
@DeliciousMauritious
@DeliciousMauritious 7 ай бұрын
Hi, normally in Cubase with the Mackie Control you can activate the level meters in the display by holding SHIFT and pressing SMPTE/BEATS, probably because the Mackie Control does not have dedicated meter displays, just LCD screens. This shortcut does not seem to work on the P1-M though, I just tried again to be sure. Maybe alternate MIDI Remote scripts will allow for that in the future? Or maybe if you use other DAWs? I must say I'm quite happy with the LED metering on the main unit at the moment, the angle and layout makes it easy to read.
@groovechild9903
@groovechild9903 7 ай бұрын
@@DeliciousMauritious Thanks for your reply. I use Cubase 13 Pro and I had a Mackie Control Universal Pro prior to purchasing the P1M which was capable of displaying meter levels, so hopefully maybe it’s somewhere hidden inside, in fact the Icon website states that Large clear OLED display showing channel name, control values, metering and program parameters etc. for each channel. Unless metering means the plug-in values???

Can you use this to chop samples/audio?
@DeliciousMauritious
@DeliciousMauritious 8 ай бұрын
Hi there, yes it can be used for this purpose - the "chop" (or split) key has to be mapped to one of the buttons on the touch pad, but the tiny jog wheel is rather usable for precision moves, and allows you to zoom in and out, horizontally and vertically, by pushing buttons. However, if the Resolve Speed Editor could be used in Cubase for this purpose, the jog wheel on that is really a step up.

Hi there what version of cubase was you using with makie hui?
@DeliciousMauritious
@DeliciousMauritious 8 ай бұрын
Hi, I have been using Cubase Pro 12 for a while. But Mackie HUI implementation in Cubase has not been updated for decades I guess. On the contrary, Mackie Control implementation has been updated at least until 2015, so you can access newer functions such as Cue Mixes, Listen Mode, Channel Strip... However, using Bome Midi Translator I was able to map unused buttons on the HUI to key commands and control track versions, arranger mode, etc.

@DeliciousMauritious
@DeliciousMauritious 8 ай бұрын
@@masterlee9057 I started mapping buttons with BOME in Cubase 11. I guess maybe this could be done with MIDI Remote these days. I grew tired of other limitations of the HUI : its huge size which in my setup makes it difficult to reach some buttons, the 4 characters display limitation for track names and plugin parameters, and also only 4 Vpots for plugin edition which translates into endless pages of parameters.

Can you please help me? I have the p1-m I can obviously move the faders from 8 to 8 but when I use the button just on the left it doesn't move them from 1 to 1 which is very annoying. it just goes from page 1 to 2 on PAN if that's what's selected...does anyone have the problem or have a solution in mind? thanks
@DeliciousMauritious
@DeliciousMauritious 8 ай бұрын
Hi, which DAW are you using? If you are using Cubase, this is normal behavior. < and > are page up and page down for parameters, while << and >> are bank up and down for faders. When pushed on their own, they move 8 faders at the time. But if you hold SHIFT while pressing them, you can move one channel at the time. Shift is a very important key when using MCU style devices with Cubase (which is why I'd love to map it to a physical key on the P1-M), this is detailed in the Remote Control Devices PDF. Hope this helps!

This or the SSL UF8?
@DeliciousMauritious
@DeliciousMauritious 9 ай бұрын
That's not an easy one. I do not own the UF8 but probably the build quality on the SSL is better, but it is sensibly more expensive, around 50% more when you bundle the "optional" (but beautiful and adjustable) D4T display with the P1-M. The integration with SSL plugins is probably better as well if you use the 360 software. Still, the P1-M is overall smaller, has a dedicated and accessible transport section (even though the buttons are bigger on the Nano) and is much more customizable with the 16 key touch pad on 5 buttons. In Cubase, I end up with 240 assignable buttons when merging the 3 DAW modes, even if some get wasted because I have to duplicate Shift, Undo and Save on most layers. There is still hope that one day iCon will make it possible to remap the automation buttons, as they are on the P1-Nano, so that the unused ones in Cubase (which only uses Read and Write) can be mapped to these 3 functions.

I've had the P1-M and (2) P1-Xs for about 2 weeks now and unless you're wedded to the SSL plugins. I see no reason to pay the additional cash. I have a hardware Fusion and other SSL plugins as well and for the price point and the build quality of the Icon product it's a no-brainer for me. I think this review was great. My points of contention are Quality control and customer service with Icon at this point and I hope to address those in the near future,

I'm in the camp of a P1-M and X extender (second X on the way). I also picked up the Rocksolid Audio Micro4k controller. I was able to set it up in Sonar that if I have a Micro4k mapped SSL style channel strip in all my FX bins...hitting the SEL key on the iCon forces focus to that track and the Micro4k now controls that specific SSL style channel strip on that channel. Works like a charm but took some fiddling.

Great Review, thank you for giving your honest opinion! I am curious about the feel of the jog wheel and faders on both units. Do they wobble a bit or feel sturdy and fixed? Also, is the size of jog wheel the same on both units? The fader looks different to me.
@DeliciousMauritious
@DeliciousMauritious 9 ай бұрын
Thank you for the kind comment. The faders feel ok but do wobble a bit from side to side - more than on my HUI (but on the HUI I had to calibrate sensitivity on a regular basis as they would become sticky or shaky). The jog wheel on the other hand feels better than the one on my HUI, smoother and easier to operate (maybe it needs service). Neither comes close to the jog wheel on my Resolve Speed Editor though. It's just so incredibly tiny, my thumb is almost bigger, so it's pretty difficult to operate as a standard jog wheel. Works great when you need precise, smaller moves. But when travelling from one end of the project to the other it's very annoying. Maybe with a shuttle mode (I haven't found a way to do that at the moment, HUI protocol had that but it seems MCU does not) it would be more useful.
@gerotone
@gerotone 9 ай бұрын
@@DeliciousMauritious I think the jog wheel is made for thumb control, but because it's at the bottom corner the hand can't rest really well, maybe it helps when there's a handpad. Behringer x touch has a great jog wheel and feels pretty good.

For using all the functions of the icon Controller, do you have to keep the iMap App always opened? - Best
