To measure where a speaker has resonance, you’ll want to look for areas where vibrations are strongest. Here’s a step-by-step method to locate these resonant spots and add weight to reduce vibrations and improve sound quality. 1. Use a Tone Generator Start by playing a sine wave sweep (a slow increase in frequency) through the speaker, using a tone generator app or software. Play through low, mid, and high frequencies (e.g., start at around 20 Hz and gradually increase to 200 Hz or higher, depending on your speaker's range). Resonance often appears at specific frequencies; you’ll notice increased vibration at these points. 2. Identify Resonant Frequencies with Your Hand or a Laser Vibrometer Hand Testing: Place your hand lightly on different parts of the speaker's surface, like the frame, cone, and cabinet, as it plays different frequencies. You should feel vibrations getting stronger at specific points and frequencies. Laser Vibrometer (if available): A laser vibrometer can measure vibration intensity more accurately, showing exactly where resonances are highest. This tool can be more precise for fine-tuning placement. 3. Observe Cabinet and Cone Vibrations Resonances often occur in the cabinet walls or near joints and edges. Also, check the speaker cone-sometimes certain areas may vibrate more, especially at higher volumes. Mark these points with a non-permanent marker so you can locate them later. 4. Add Weight to Dampen Resonance Add small weights or damping material (like modeling clay, acoustic putty, or adhesive lead weights) directly to the resonant points you identified. Try adding weight gradually and test the speaker after each addition. You’ll likely notice the vibrations and resonances diminishing. Placement Tips: For cabinet resonance, place weights on the cabinet walls or in corners. For cone resonance, add very small weights at specific points on the cone edge, balancing symmetrically to avoid affecting the speaker's movement. 5. Test with Music or Audio Play some music or audio content after adding weights to check for any unwanted changes in sound. Make adjustments as needed by removing or repositioning weights until you find the ideal balance. This method helps control speaker resonance without overly affecting audio output, improving clarity by balancing and dampening unwanted vibrations.

I see a lot of expensive equipment, but why play music from your tab? Build a proper PC with a linear power supply and add a dedicated USB card like a PPA or something else to connect to your DAC, then tweak the system and software for optimal audio playback. What a good audio source can do is extremely underestimated!
@rothaabarth23178 күн бұрын
Im pretty sure the tablet is just used to control a streamer, which is then feeding a digital signal into a DAC. So no losses there.
@wichard90977 күн бұрын
@@rothaabarth2317 true.. It probably is, but there is no audio streamer as good as having the raw file on your pc tuned with extremely low latency memory and tweaked with the right software.

In your opinion is the Gryphon Diablo 300 better than the Naim New Classic 200 (Nsc 222, Nap 250 and Npx 300) for a couple of Focal Utopia Scala Evo?

I've heard them with a few options inc. the Gryphon, and the best match was the Classe Delta pre/stereo power.

A separate will be always better. Better separation and less noise. However the gryphon diablo 333 is an animal! Delta what been suggested lacks power for me. I only tested with B&W 801d

So perhaps you should listen using headphones like everyone else wanting to get a "general idea" of the sound. But that's not your style. You go on rants first and think later, if at all. No one with half a brain expects this to be like a live demo, but WHEN USING QUALITY HEADPHONES, you can get a good idea if enjoy the sound, or easier still, if you don't. Another easy option to come up with would have been to simply not click on the video, but instead you did, insuring you'll get more of these on your homepage. Smart!

Really this "demo" would actually be useful if a) you played the same music for each speaker - preferably real music that has actual bass and treble not just audiophile recordings that don't give much if any insight to how the speakers sounds b) you stopped wandering around the room showing off cables etc and stick to the actual listening window that people are likely to be in in their homes. You can't tell anything from how a speaker will sound in any given room by how it sounds from the back, top or the sides. In fact you can't make any evaluation at all as to how a speaker will sound in another room from any recording of it in a different room. The best these "demos" can hope to acheive is to provide a relative comparison of how two speakers sound in a given acoustic environment and currently they're failing even to achieve that because you use different music and wander all over the place when recording.

@AbsoluteFidelity2 жыл бұрын
Very hard edged in upper mids/lower treble due to peaking at around the 2khz region off axis. That gives a sense of clarity but will take toll after sometime. Soundstage isnt that wide either.
@jamesmay13222 жыл бұрын
Sure you can tell that from a totally arbitary youtube recording with no information on the microphone used or system used to do the recording or any understanding how the room reflections or reverb etc is affecting the sound in any given position. Not. Anyway REAL instruments ARE edgy and bright at times. I challenge anybody to go and listen to a live band (with no PA sound reinforcement) at even moderate volumes and not have a headache or listening fatigue after 2-3 hours (If i don't wear some form of ear protection when playing my drums, i'm practically deaf after 90 minutes - will certainly have a good headache at the least). One thing that can be guaranteed about audio systems that can be listened to (at anything but background levels) for 4 or 5 hours at a time without any fatigue is that they're not accurate.
@AbsoluteFidelity2 жыл бұрын
@@jamesmay1322 sure I can tell from what I heard when I auditioned the 300 and 500 7G and from what measurements confirm. Try again.
@jamesmay13222 жыл бұрын
@@AbsoluteFidelity Whose measurements? All the measurements posted in reviews show the speakers to be particularly flat and accurate on axis (certainly a lot more accurate than a lot of other speakers - even far more expensive ones), and only showing any kind of "peakiness" past 30 degrees off axis (show me a speaker that doesn't do this to some degree), and if anyone is listening to such speakers at more than 10-15 degrees off axis ... well that's their problem.
@AbsoluteFidelity2 жыл бұрын
@@jamesmay1322 False. The 500 7G peaks at 2khz off axis, lending a very hard edged sound to its overall presentation. Ive yet to see ANY SPEAKER with such off axis characteristics. On axis measurements alone wont really tell you much, it is the combination of the on and off axis characteristics that shapes the 'house sound'. I would like you to show me ONE speaker besides MA that peaks at 2khz off axis since you mentioned its quite common. Such peaking usually isnt wanted as it lands right in the most sensitive part of our hearing. Peak at 8khz, 10khz, thats fine, not at 2khz. Toe in the speakers directly at you if that matters, you are still going to hear the off axis characteristics as it interacts with the room and half of what you hear is reflected sound. Doesnt matter how much you toe the speakers in. If you cant hear that hard edged sound, good for you. I can hear it loud and clear and it is backed up by data.
@mikedeiss Жыл бұрын
@@AbsoluteFidelity talking about measurements isn't really useful. The only thing you should trust is your own ears. On KZbin you cannot here how good the soindstage and accuray of this speaker in treated version with optimize audio really is. But i can tell you, it is great sounding at any volume with any kind of musci. No harshness and no 2kHz peak. I've listened with Thierry Mayer yesterday in his "only" with Optimeze Audio treated shop to this and it sounded fantastic.
