Only just seeing this video for the first time..the chipshop in question is one I,as a child visited weekly when we visited my nan..fast forward to my early 20's and my husband was working in chesterfield and we used to tell him daily to go to this chippy for lunch..he kept saying he couldn't find it..mum and I had a run out one day to show him where it was,,,only to discover it was him that had knocked it down and was in the process of rebuilding/reinventing it.....x so so many happy memories of my time/life/family in chesterfield.....

I live in the Rotherham area and very rarely going into the town centre. The biggest problem with these areas is prosperity, like what we had before Thatcher was put in charge of the country. The closing of mines and steel with people who supplied these industries closing. People didn't have the money to spend, nothing has been done to replace what she destroyed. Also the past councils have a lost to do with it's demise. They've gone too over the top with pedestrianisation. If you can't get in with cars then they will go elsewhere. I remember before all this alternation were done, they should have kept the old market and kept in clean. We could have been advised as an old market town. It's so sterile now . I remember it being bustling with people elbow to elbow. What a disaster and they keep spending more money on a no hope town. It's just pitiful seeing in like this.

@@stephenreeve6732 it was similar when I went to chesterfield car parking is so expensive there people go to crystal peaks or Meadowhall for free parking

You should have visited the indoor market which is quite nice and it’s being massively expanded and upgraded. The problem with the town centre in my opinion started when it was pedestrianised so that killed it dead. If you can’t get anywhere near the shops by car then people just go elsewhere as do I.

If the council is anti-business then eventually the businesses move out and take all the jobs with them. Socialism is what's happened to Rotherham.
