What a wonderful sight of one of the greatest British fighters ever. She looked right, flew right and her pilots loved her understandably. Magnificent.

Can someone tell me if it’s normal to pop the brake chute before touchdown?
@dominiqueroudier9401Күн бұрын
I think the pilot had open the brake chute like some russian planes. Su22 or Su25, few seconds before touchdown. Don t know why???if cross wind, can destabilize it!!!

I was in the Swiss Airforce as a maintenance technician working many years on the Hunter, that was a great time! However here it was not practiced to release the brake chute before touchdown, it eventually it could make sense with a bit of overspeed…

I was an armourer on 43sqdn RAF Khormaksar, Aden from may 1967 to september 1967. On 8sqdn RAF Muharraq, Bahrain from September 1967 to April 1968. There were 9 FGA9's and 4 PR Mk10's. We lost two 9's - one pilot was killed flying at low level near Doha, and one ejected over the sea near Dubai. In the desert near Doha, we had to recover whatever munitions we could find, including the pilots remains we came across - no words for that, so distressing, but we did that for his family, who we met some weeks later - The RAF flew them out to Muharraq. Aden closed down a few weeks after we flew up to Muharraq. We were not sorry to leave Aden - we were all in our early twenties and wondered why the f*** Britain was still there (such a hot, sticky place!) - and no longer as strategically important.

There was a squadron of these operating out of Kai Tak airport in Hong Kong in the 60's. The approach path to Kai Tak was right over my secondary school and once in a while one could hear the distinctive sound of the Hawker Hunter passing overhead. Beautiful fighter.

@@jozuavanlangenhove6586 Didn't go as planned? Many innocents were killed in the most horrifying ways, due to a pilots misjudgement in a low level manoeuvre. You are the master of understatement.
@paulmca85142 күн бұрын
Andy Hill was the Hunter pilot that crashed at Shoreham, he was not showing off, he made a mistake, starting his loop manoeuvre too low and slow. He didn`t intend to crash the aircraft, and he wasn`t reckless like the media tried to portray him. The A27 road should have been closed during the airshow, also the organisors had not carried out any risk assesments on the show for over 3 years. The was no fault with the aircraft, yet the CAA kneejerk reaction practically grounded all ex-military jets from flying in the UK.

I've seen it fly down Dentdale four times this year and last saw it about a week ago when it came through low from the west and went into a steep bank to turn right towards Dent Head before turning left to go down Widdale, presumably heading down into Wensleydale to land at Leeming. It is unmistakably a Hunter and makes a very different sound to the Typhoons, F15s and F35s we often see flying down the dale. The first time I saw it I thought I was seeing things!

For an airframe built in 1980s this aircraft is long overdue to be replace. Theres no reason why they couldn't design a F-35 A version with two engines and two seats to replace the F15E.
@happycanayjian15822 күн бұрын
Yeah, that would be cheap….said no one ever. You’re talking about designing an entirely different, $30B+ airplane.
@TheJustUsLeague2 күн бұрын
@happycanayjian1582 uh yeah, which is exactly what they did when they thought up the concept of the F-35 and started designing it to be built. It's been done before and it'll be done again.
@happycanayjian15822 күн бұрын
@@TheJustUsLeague Sure but you said “there’s no reason”…. There are, quite literally, billions of reasons why not to design a twin-engine, two seat variant of the F-35A to replace the active F-15E. I know both math and economics can be hard for some people….
